Rex had Foley in Baltimore

In 2006, linebacker Ricky Foley signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
So Rex Ryan knows the newest Jet, claimed off waivers this week.
But the Ontario-native clearly wasn’t ready for the NFL back then.
“In Baltimore I didn’t know what it meant or took to be a professional, how to study the playbook, watch film and practice like a pro,” Foley said. “That’s all behind me now. I just want to line up and get to the quarterback faster than anyone else.”
After that brief stint in Baltimore, Foley went back to Canada, and turned into a CFL star. He signed with Seattle this off-season, but was waived on Monday.

Jets claim pass rusher Foley

The New York Jets have claimed free agent LB Ricky Foley off
waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. The announcement was made by General Manager
Mike Tannenbaum.
Foley (LB/6-2/252/York University/York, Canada) was signed by Seattle on
February 23, 2010, after spending four seasons in the Canadian Football League.
Foley was a first-round draft choice of the B.C. Lions in 2006. In 2009, he was
named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian after leading the league with 12 sacks
and posting 51 tackles. Foley originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free
agent with Baltimore in 2006, but was released before training camp.

Mauga still might not play

It looked like Josh Mauga was all set to return for Week Four of the preseason from a concussion.
Not necessarily.
The promising linebacker, out of Nevada-Reno, still had concussion-like symptoms a few days ago, and it’s possible the Jets won’t play against Philadelphia, on Thursday Night, at Lincoln Financial Field.
Whether he plays or not, he’s likely going to end up on the practice squad.

Moore lends a hand in Newark

New York Jets Offensive Lineman Brandon Moore will attend McKinley Elementary on Friday, September 3 to pass out backpacks and school supplies to students at the low-income school in Newark. Moore will also issue a challenge to the students encouraging them to read “Moore” with the winning student receiving a tour of the Jets facility and tickets to the season finale.

O’Connell waived

On Tuesday morning, the Jets released quarterback Kevin O’Connell. The Jets traded a seventh round pick to Detroit last summer to acquire O’Connell, who was originally a third round pick of New England.

No sophomore slump yet

Former New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce now works for ESPN as an NFL analyst.
On Monday’s NFL Live, he said Mark Sanchez is in “a sophomore slump.”
You can’t say that yet.
It’s just the preseason.
If he struggles once the real games start, then we can talk about “a sophomore slump.”
But until then, it’s premature to use that terminology.

Woody on his back

Jets right tackle Damien Woody was held out of Tuesday’s practice due to back spasms.
Instead of practicing, he was at a chiropractor’s office.
Woody doesn’t feel this injury will keep him out of the team’s opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
“It was a little flair-up,” said Woody. “You want to be cautious. The chiropractor did help. It’s no big deal. It’s good that it happened this week (instead of next).”
