Jets considering UFL CB

The Jets could use another cornerback.

And a player from the UFL is on their radar.

Las Vegas Locomotive cornerback Gerard Lawson, who had a stint with the Cleveland Browns, is a player the Jets like a great deal.

But in order to sign the former Oregon State standout, the Jets would have to play the UFL’s $150,000 release fee. And don’t seem willing to do it.

“If it wasn for this dumb ass 150k release fee from the UFL I would be a JET right now,” Lawson tweeted.

Brady as good as ever

The Jets defense better bring their A+ game to Foxboro on Monday Night.

Tom Brady has been on a roll recently.

“There is no weakness in Brady’s game,” Rex Ryan said. “He’s poised. He’s competitive. He’s a leader, and by the way, he can make every throw. He’s great underneath. He’s smart. He knows where to throw the (ball).

“He’s gone 199 straight throws without throwing a pick. He can throw the deep ball with touch, stands in there (and) faces the pressure. He’s great at quarterback sneak plays except once. He’s just a heck of a football player.”

It’s Sal Alosi time

The Jets had 100 percent attendence in their off-season workout program, except for Darrelle Revis’s brief holdout in the spring. And that near perfect attendence they feel should help them down the stretch.

“Everything we do is about winning in December and January,” Rex Ryan said. “That’s where we’ve got to be at our best. We push our guys in the weight room. That’s so we can be stronger in December and January. We think that’s an advantage to our football team later in the year.”

We will see, but it can’t hurt.

NFL release on 2011 refunds

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today a league-wide ticket refund policy for any 2011 preseason and regular-season games that are cancelled due to a work stoppage.

The policy would apply to all general admission tickets. Each club would determine its own policies for club seats, suites, and payments for personal seat licenses.

As they do each year, clubs will send season-ticket holders more information in the coming weeks regarding their accounts and opportunities to purchase tickets for next season.

“We are working hard to secure an agreement with the union that is fair and forward-thinking to ensure our game is sound and strong well into the future,” said Goodell. “We know we will reach an agreement at some point. We all want football without interruption, but our fans are entitled to know now that they would receive refunds if any games are cancelled.”

The specifics of the league-wide policy for general admission tickets are as follows:

• Full refunds will be offered for all preseason and regular-season home games that are cancelled.

• Season and partial season ticket holders will have the option to receive refunds in either the form that they paid for tickets (e.g., check, credit card), or in credits towards future games.

• Fans who purchase individual game tickets will be offered a refund or the right to exchange their ticket to a cancelled game for a ticket to a future game as selected by the club and subject to availability.

• Refunds will be paid no later than 30 days after final determination of how many games will be played during the 2011 NFL season.

Jets work out Kris Brown

The Jets worked out kicker Kris Brown. The announcement was made by Rich Cimini.

“Concerned by Nick Folk’s recent downturn, the New York Jets are checking into available kickers, ESPNNewYork.com has learned,” Cimini wrote. “On Tuesday, they’re scheduled to work out veteran free agent Kris Brown, according to a league source.”

The pragamatic thing to do would be to hold the workout in the new stadium, which can be very windy.

Rex Ryan on Santonio Holmes

So far, the Jets off-season trade for Santonio Holmes is looking brilliant.

“He can make one or two plays in the game that can be the difference of whether you win or lose,” Rex Ryan said. “He makes (plays) to beat you. I saw that when I was at Baltimore up close and personal when he beat us three times in one year including beating us in the AFC Championship game.

“When Mike Tannenbaum made that trade (and asked), ‘Well. Are you all in?’ Absolutely. The guy is a great football player and a great playmaker, but he’s a great teammate as well. He’s a New York Jet and we’re proud to have him.”

Bart Scott on the New England offense

When Bart Scott looks at tape of the New England Patriots now, he sees a much different offensive approach compared to the one he saw in Week Two.

“I think they’ve changed their offense,” Scott said. “They have a new identity. Danny Woodhead has been a great addition for them. (They are) working those tight ends. Deion Branch is more of a route-runner and gives you more things to think about. They’re playing well right now and it’s going to be a tough challenge.

“You just have make sure you get a read of the routes to throw their timing off. They look around and there might be a favorable matchup they like and Brady sees (it). You’re going to have to be the guy that has to make that play that time.”

Jet coverage not bad, but some issues linger

The same coverage problems the Jets have had most of the year, reared their ugly head once again against the Bengals, and if they don’t come up with a better plan against New England, they could be in for a long night.

Don’t put the Jets pass rush in Canton

There is no question the Jets Front Seven played well, but before you say the pass rush is “back,” let’s hold off a little. There is something you need to consider . . .
