Pub-Style Brisket Sandwiches Coming to Concessions

NEW YORK and BUFFALO, N.Y. (August 30, 2011) – Food Network and Delaware North Companies Sportservice are urging all fans to cheer with their mouths full as they introduce a Food Network signature Pub-style Beef Brisket sandwich – plus additional Pub-Style brisket sandwiches celebrating local flavors – at select National Football League stadiums this season.

Last season, Food Network menu items were served in premium areas of football stadiums where Sportservice operates food and beverage services. Now the Pub-Style brisket sandwiches and other menu items such as a Spicy Beer Cheese Dog and Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese represent further growth for Food Network in general concessions at stadiums.

“Bringing our partnership with Delaware North Companies to the general concession level in NFL stadiums allows us to deepen Food Network’s relationship with viewers who have always wanted to taste what they see us serve up on TV, online and in our magazine,” said Sergei Kuharsky, general manager of Food Network’s new business enterprises

The Food Network signature Pub-Style Beef Brisket will feature Porter-braised beef brisket topped with cheddar cheese, whole grain mustard and fried onions on a pretzel roll. It will be available at five stadiums: MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the New York Giants and New York Jets; in the club level at Edward Jones Dome in St Louis; at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland; at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, and at Soldier Field in Chicago.

At each of the five stadiums, Sportservice will also serve a Food Network Pub-Style Beef Brisket sandwich reflecting the tastes of that region: New York/New Jersey’s will be topped with pepperoncini and smoked mozzarella on a pretzel roll; St Louis’s version will have provel cheese and Red Hot Riplets on a pretzel roll; the Cleveland sandwich is topped with potato pancake, caramelized onion, horseradish sour cream and stadium mustard on a pretzel roll; Buffalo fans can savor buffalo hot sauce, blue cheese and sliced celery on a pretzel roll; and the Chicago sandwich is topped with Giardiniera, sharp provolone and celery-seed and sport pepper mayonnaise on a pretzel roll.

Rex on the decision to go with Folk

On Tuesday, Rex Ryan and Mike Westhoff decided to go with Nick Folk instead of Nick Novak as their placekicker.

“In Novak’s case, I think he has a great chance to kick in this league,” Ryan said. “If there is a situation where somebody needs a kicker, we kicked him all through the preseason. There’s going to be a lot of tape on him. He made a 63-yarder in practice. So I think the young man will be able to kick in this league, I don’t think there’s any question about that.
“I think this will maybe give [Novak] an opportunity to hook on maybe for a (preseason) game and who knows what will go from there.
“I thought Folk has been kicking outstanding. When we chart all of our kicks, he’s been absolutely outstanding. And quite honestly, Nick Novak had a good camp. I think the competition was good, but clearly I feel that Folk is our guy.”

Payne’s wrist injury

Wide receiver Logan Payne is going to have surgery on his injured left wrist.
He hurt the wrist on a special team’s coverage play. Payne banged the wrist on a helmet of a New York Giants player.
It’s possible the Jets could put Payne on injured reserve and keep him around.
They are very high on him.

Novak’s leg

The Jets reportedly released kicker Nick Novak today.
The former Maryland kicker seemed to hurt his leg in the fourth quarter, last night, making a tackle on a Giants kick return.
According to an NFL source, Novak’s leg was spiked by the cleat of a Giants player. It’s not a serious injury, and likely didn’t require an injury settlement.
Don’t be surprised if Novak lands with another team very quickly.
He’s clearly an NFL quality kicker.

Premium – Sanchez needs to play better

Dan Leberfeld breaks down Mark Sanchez performance against the Jints, play-by-play, and sees a player with a lot of talent who needs to play better . . .
Sanchez’s performance, for the all-important third preseason game, the dress rehearsal, was underwhelming.
Things didn’t start off well, and it wasn’t Mark’s fault. His first throw, a swing pass in the right flat to Shonn Green, was dropped. Greene has improved as a pass catcher, but still has a ways to go. On second down, Greene ran for five up the middle, and then on third down, Sanchez threw to Greene for a gain of one, and it was a three-and-out. What a non-descript possession – a run, and two dump passes. How about one throw to the myriad weapons in the passing game?
The second drive was a three-and-out also, including a second down pass to Plaxico Burress, on the short right side, that was way off target. These two have a lot of work to do to get on the same page, which is understandable.
The third drive wasn’t a three-and-out, but it might as well have been for the passing offense. The first down was thanks to three runs by Greene. The second set of downs featured a three-yard scramble by Sanchez, and then a short out route to Holmes, on the left side, that hit him in the helmet as he was making his cut. Then on third down, Sanchez threw a pass to Burress on the short left side, and he honestly, he wasn’t open.
The next drive, early in the second quarter, was another three-and-out. It started with another short checkdown to Greene, a short run by Greene, and then a third down pass, intended for Burress, was tipped at the line and fell incomplete.
On the next possession, the only reason it wasn’t a three-and-out was an illegal use of the hands penalty on DT Linval Joseph. Two plays later, Sanchez fumbled and it was recovered by LB Clint Sintim.
On the next possession, the Jets took over on a short field after a long Antonio Cromartie kickoff return, starting on the Giants’ 35, but needed fourth-and-one Keller reception (not a bad throw by Sanchez). After a nice eight-yard run by Greene, Sanchez hit Holmes on 17-yard TD in the middle of the end zone, off a play-action. The Keller and Sanchez throws were one-read passes, but they were his best throws of the night.
The Jets went hurry-up offense on the first drive of the second half, and Sanchez hit Holmes (20 yards), Derrick Mason (four yards) and Dustin Keller (gain of 10). But the drive ended a bad throw down the middle. Sanchez often struggles sustaining drives do to his inconsistent accuracy.
Sanchez needs to play a lot better in the Jets regular season opener against Dallas, but I think one things needs to considered about the Giants game. Big Blue has an outstanding pass rush, and there was no way Sanchez was going to let himself get in harms way in a preseason game, so that partly explains all the checkdowns, and perhaps why some throws (like the one that hit Holmes in the helmet) were thrown prematurely. Wayne Hunter was struggling with Justin Tuck, and Sanchez wasn’t going to let Tuck, or anyone else bury him into the turf in a meaningless game.
Discretion is the better part of valor.

Ropati should start

After Mo Wilkerson was ejected from the game for fighting in the third quarter, Ropati Pitiotua took over for him, and did a solid job.
In fact, it might have been an improvement.
Wilkerson has the potential to be special, but he’s not ready to start just yet. He’s a work-in-progress.
Pitiotua is higher on the growth curve, and had a terrific summer.
Pitiotua should be the starter with Wilkerson spelling him.
Not the other way around.

Logan Payne tough blow

Jets wide receiver/special teamer Logan Payne looks he has a serious left wrist injury.
He suffered the injury early in the game.
Payne is on the sidelines now, in street clothes, with the wrist heavily wrapped.
This could be a devastating blow to Payne, who had a legitimate chance to make the team.
He is one of the Jets best kick/punt cover guys.

Rex trashes offense

“Obviously, I’d like to get a few more first downs. It is ridiculous the difference in yardage. We have to play a lot better offensively. We have to move the ball better.” – Rex Ryan at halftime of the Jets-Giants preseason game.
