The Jets were back to work on Monday after having a week off during the bye.
So what is it like being back?
“It always takes you a little time to get back in the groove, but I think it’s fine,” Jim Leonhard said. “[Monday's practice] is an extra day. You’re used to starting your week on Wednesdays. So today is a great day to get back in the building and get your mind back on football and knock the rust off.”
Leonhard knows the Jets next two games are huge, against division foes, Buffalo and New England.
“We have to come out swinging.,” Leonhard said. “We can’t come out flat. We have to play well for the next couple games and see what happens after that.”
It’s not just the next two games, the whole month of November will he significant for the Jets
“You can’t say enough about how important these next three, four games are for us,”" Leonhard said. “Obviously it’s huge. So we need to come out of this bye strong. We can’t afford to come out flat. We need to carry over that emotion that we’ve been playing with before the bye.”

The Jets secondary, led by Darrelle Revis and Kyle Wilson, did a lot of good things. They did get one personnel break, but you can only play who is out there. Here is Part II of Dan’s look at the secondary.

One of the key plays in the Jets win over San Diego was a fourth quarter pick by Darrelle Revis.
Here is Rex Ryan’s explanation of the defense the Jets called on that play -
“We showed man (coverage), they ran run-and-tell motions. They were running motions over to see if it was man (coverage). We showed them a man look, then ran loaded zones. It was a great call. Sure enough, they threw into it. Cro had great coverage. He got a tip on the ball and Revis was off to the races.”
Revis returned the interception 64 yards, and a few plays later, Mark Sanchez hit Plaxico Burress on a touchdown toss, making the score 24-21 in favor of the Jets.
The Jets recent win over San Diego was particularly gratifying for former Charger LaDainian Tomlinson.
“I wanted to treat it like a playoff game,” Tomlinson said. ”I’d be lying if I said if this didn’t add some satisfaction. You never really get to close that chapter until you face them. The win makes it better.”
And that win put the Jets in a good mindset entering their bye week.
“We had talked about it all week long going into the bye week with a win,” Tomlinson said. ”We wanted to be 4-3 going into the bye. We had a great focus this week. Everyone was really into it. The guys understood the magnitude of going into a bye week with a win. It was important.”
Against the the high-powered San Diego passing attack, for the Jets secondary, it was a tale of two halves. In Part I of Dan’s Review, he looks at the first half, which wasn’t great for the deep patrol.

Joe Namath has been critical of Mark Sanchez at times this season, and here is what the current Jets quarterback thinks of the periodic public critiques from the legend -
“He still cares a lot about the team,” Sanchez told ‘The Petros and Money Show.’ ”I know that. Some of that stuff may be taken out of context and the other stuff he just wants us to do well, so he is critical of anybody. If anybody is critical of our team it’s probably going to be me or Rex [Ryan]. That’s just kind of the roles we bought into. Joe Namath is the ultimate Jet and he’s probably the biggest icon this franchise has and winning that Super Bowl and guaranteeing it the way he did. We have a lot of respect for him and I know he wants the best out of our team. It’s no big deal.”
The Jets linebackers had a rough first half, but settled down in the second stanza, and played much better. Dan takes a closer look at what the LB’s brought to the table . . .

Darrelle Revis had a 64-yard pick in the second half against San Diego. It was a key to the Jets win over the Chargers.
“It was a big play, but I was (only) a part of the play,” Revis said. ”(Antonio) Cromartie made a good play deflecting the ball. The ball popped up and I happened to just be able to get my hands up under it. It was a key play because they were pushing. They were in the high red zone and they were going in to score. It’s good for our defense to make a play and turn the ball over.
“What I should’ve done is I should have cut back like I did last week. I had some blockers behind me. I felt their presence. Philip (Rivers) had a great angle on me and (Randy) McMichael, as well, and they knocked me out of bounds.
”This was a must-win for us. We needed this going into the bye. To get two wins under our belts in two games is great. The offense played great. Special teams played great. Going into halftime, we made some adjustments on defense to try to get off on third down.”
