Punter Ryan Quigley had three outstanding punts in a row during a special team’s drill early in practice.
This guy is very impressive . . .
Rookie center Dalton Freeman was out of the walking boot today for his badly sprained ankle, but he it was heavily-taped, and he was still limping and walking gingerly.
This player, who was one of the pleasant surprises early in camp, doesn’t look like he’s coming back anytime soon . . .
Speaking of ankle sprains, Geno Smith practiced today with his bad ankle. It was heavily taped. He had good moments and bad moments, but anytime he ran a play involving moving around, like a bootleg, it was a tough on him . . .
Brian Winters hurt his knee in the Green and White scrimmage, and hasn’t been the same since. He’s rarely practice since then.
Somebody told me it was a dislocated.
Stephen Peterman is keeping the seat warm for Winters, but it might turn out that he keeps the seat warm longer than originally planned . . .
David Harris didn’t have a good day in pass coverage. He was beat by Tommy Bohanon on an out route in a one-on-one coverage drill (he should be able to cover a 250-pound fullback better than he did on this play).
And then in a red zone drill, Harris was beat not once, but twice on the right side of the end zone by TE Konrad Reuland.
After the second Reuland touchdown, an assistant coach yelled, “C’mon 52.”
Jets need Harris to have a better year in coverage than last year, but it today’s practice is any indication, that might not get it . . .
The Jets have to be very concerned with Clyde Gates. He suffered a serious concussion last year, and then had another head injury late in the year. Today, he got hit hard by Ellis Lankster, and it looked like he suffered another head injury. He was dazed, and it ended his practice.
How much more can this guy take before he enters the danger zone? . . .
Stephen Hill seemed to tweak his groin today. He caught a deep ball from Geno Smith, and was holding his groin after the play and proceeded to do a lot of stretching.
Surprisingly, he went back to practice.
He was messaging his groin area constantly.
This is something to keep an eye on . . .
Quinton Coples continues to make a lot of plays.
He blew by Peterman, and forced Geno Smith to roll left, across his body, and throw the ball away . . .
People around the Jets think the all the criticism Rex is receiving for not seeing the Mark Sanchez Pick Six in Detroit, and most of Geno’s action, is blown out of proportion.
How often does Bill Belichick go to the bench to talk to the defense, while his offense is on the field, during games? A lot.
One long-time Redskin fan told me today Joe Gibbs left the defense to Richie Pettibone, and let Richie do his thing, and would often be talking to offensive players, while the defense was on the field.
I don’t sense that the Jets brass, including John Idzik, have any issue with what Rex said or did, in relation to the quarterbacks in Detroit.
It’s a media controversy, not a Jets controversy . . .
Joe McKnight spoke to the press today about his health and recent arrest, and shed no light on either, which is his perogative. But I tell you what, I think he would have enjoyed walking on hot coals more than this press conference (pictured above) . . .
A Daily News columnist destroyed John Idzik in a column over the weekend. The GM is 0-0 right now, so it’s a little early for that.
But there could be another factor. He’s not giving the media anything, so they have nothing to lose, and this column is a perfect example.
So many coaches and general managers leak scoops to reporters to buy love. Idzik will not do that, and we applaud him for that.
