One factor that should help the Jets a great deal in this game is the constant communication between brothers Rob and Rex Ryan.
Last week Robās Cleveland defense essentially shut down the Miami offense. The two talk all the time, and this should help the Jets quite a bit this week.
āI am sure they conversed and asked each other what worked well in beating us and what didnāt go well, defensive coverages,ā said Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne.
But while Cleveland did have a strong game, itās important to point out that Miami was without wide receiver Brandon Marshall (hamstring) and lost starting wideout Brian Hartline during the game.
Marshall is expected to play this week. Hartline’s status is unclear . . .
The Jets should be able to block or tip some passes in this game against Henne, who seems to have an issue in this area. Cleveland had several blocks last week.
The Jets best pass tipper is 6-6 Jason Taylor, who is likely to get his most extensive action of the season on Sunday, so expect him to get his hands on a few throws.
Henne disagrees with the premise that he has a low release point.
āI donāt think I have a low release point in my throws,ā Henne said. āI have always had a high release and have my arm in the right place. To say anything like that is justā¦ā . . .
Speaking of Taylor, he should have a favorable matchup this week. Either heās going to face starting right tackle Vernon Carey, who is playing with a messed up knee. He didnāt practice all week. Or if Carey canāt go, the starter will likely be Paul McQuistan, who Taylor should be able to get a lot done against . . .
While Dwight Lowery isnāt happy that Jim Leonhard got hurt, heās chomping at the bit for the extensive playing time heās going to get this Sunday at safety.
āIt think itās an opportunity,ā Lowery said. ā[Safety] is something that comes naturally to me.ā . . .
Rex Ryan and others continue to talk about how Mark Sanchez always responds well the week after a bad game. And they continue to push this angle even though reporters keep pointing out to them, in follow up questions, heās had two bad games in a row (Cincinnati and New England).
Itās definitely a good idea for Jets coaches to keep pumping this angle into Sanchezās head, even if itās not entirely accurate right now . . .
As you all know by now, the Miami Dolphins are traveling to the New York/New Jersey area on Friday, and will practice at the Giants training complex. This bothered some writers that the Giants would allow a Jet rival to use their facility.
John Mara said he talked to Woody Johnson and everything is cool. He talked about how great the relationship is between the two teams (that isnāt what I hear).
But Henne is under the impression that the Dolphins are going to practice in the new stadium.
āItās good to experience the new stadium there and get accustomed to the weather,ā Henne said. āGet our Friday practice in that climate.ā
The Dolphins will NOT be practicing in the stadium, just at the Giants facility.
