It’s going to be an interesting day in Jets Land. There is likely going to be some news created, no question about it.
You see on Thursday, the Jets are opening the locker room to the media for the first time with the veterans around. The first time the entire off-season.
There was locker room access during the rookie mini-camp, but that was a rookie crowd. There were a few veterans wandering around, like Antwan Barnes, who is rehabbing his knee, but not many.
Thursday will be the first time that the reporters will have a chance to talk, in person, with Chris Johnson, Michael Vick, Eric Decker and so forth. There were brief conference calls when they signed, but no in person access.
I’m not going to lie, I’m looking forward to it.
I really looking forward to Vick.
We all know he’s saying all the right things about Geno Smith being the team’s quarterback, but I really want to have a chance to read the tea leaves, look the man in the eye, get a feel for where he’s coming from on this whole thing.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking to stir anything up. I’m sure some will. That is too be expected.
But c’mon, but do any of us truly believe that Vick signed here to be Smith backup?
I mean he might have to be, but you would have to think, in his heart of hearts, he believes he’s going to emerge as the starter.
To Vick’s credit, he is taking the high road, just like he did in Philadelphia last year when he lost his job to Nick Foles due to injury.
I have never met Eric Decker. I have interviewed on SiriusXM (he used to do a weekly spot on the show I do with Vic Carucci). It will be interesting to see where he’s coming from, now that he’s “the man” in a receiving corps.
How is Chris Johnson feeling about being a rotational back and not the bell cow?
If Johnson embraces his role, this could be an incredible signing for the Jets. You talk about two backs with divergent styles who compliment each other, that would certainly be Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson.
I’m looking forward to meeting Jacoby Ford, and drilling down a little more on his story. I have this sneaking suspicion that he’s going to be a free agent steal. The guy can flat-out fly, and I know he had some injuries in Oakland, but that team was consistently a mess during his time there. I think used right, and with more stability, this guy can make a lot of noise.
How is Willie Colon doing with his arm rehab?
What is going on with Mike Goodson?
I’m going to try to talk to Marcus Zusevics, who I mentioned yesterday, could be more of a factor than people realize.
Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day, and I look forward to checking in with y’all on what I see and hear.
