Time for another helping of Dan’s Website Whispers from One Jets Drive – plenty of good stuff on Santonio, Brandon Moore, Ropati, Matt Moore and so much more . . .
Santonio Holmes doesn’t like to be told what to do.
So perhaps when Brandon Moore told him he didn’t appreciate him calling out the offensive line after the Baltimore game, it probably led him to do it again this week . . .
Did you notice that Moore brought up Holmes “captaincy” several times in his comments today about the receiver? That has to tick off Brandon and other players.
Rex should never have named Holmes captain. He has done nothing to deserve it.
This was another case of Rex doing everything he can to keep this guys head screwed on straight. He’s constantly appeasing him so he doesn’t lose him.
Perhaps, the Jets made a mistake giving this guy big money. Now they can’t control him . . .
One other thing on Holmes; I don’t think his comments about the offensive line divide the team.
I don’t know of any close friends he has on the team, so this isn’t going to turn into factions.
He’s basically a loner at One Jets Drive.
He’s on an island.
Honestly, this could be a lot worse if a more respected player made the comments, but the fact they came from “Tone,” the damage is minimal.
I don’t think this will impact the play of Matt Slauson (pictured above) and the rest of the offensive line one iota . . .
Don’t sleep on Dolphins QB Matt Moore.
He’s not bad.
And he has experience. He started 13 games in Carolina. He’s 27 years old, and has been in the league since 2007. He knows what he’s doing out there.
Also, he’s had two weeks to prepare for this game.
I’m not saying the Jets are going to lose, but it would be dangerous to say, “This should be an easy game because the Dolphins starting QB (Chad Henne) is out.”
It’s a mistake to think that way.
Henne to Moore is not a step down . . .
Mike Pettine made a good point today about the transition from Bryan Thomas to Jamaal Westerman at outside linebacker.
Thomas is 270, and Westerman is 255, so this makes it tougher for Jamaal as a run defender – he’s not as big and stout as Thomas.
He can get engulfed a little easier . . .
You get the feeling Bart Scott is going to have a big game this week.
He’s well rested after playing sparingly the last two games, and he’s kept a very low profile this week.
He seems ready for a statement game on National TV . . .
Not having Ropati this week is a big loss for the Jets.
He’s coming off a good game in New England, and makes more impact plays than the Jets other backup end, Marcus Dixon, who was a non-factor against the Pats.
Mo Wilkerson is very inconsistent, which is what you expect from a rookie end.
So the Jets have to be a little worried about their end rotation entering this game.
Elevating NT Martin Tevaseu this week doesn’t help them at end . . .
Donald Strickland has recovered very quickly from the concussion he suffered in New England, and now there is a chance he will play this week.
He passed one baseline test, but has to take one more to be cleared for the game.
The test includes a lot of numbers and words you have to repeat back to the doctor.
Isaiah Trufant will not play, which is a tough blow for the Jets special teams. Mike Westhoff loves the guy. He’s been a terrific kick and punt cover guy for the Jets.
Often the first guy down the field.
