If you are a New York Jets fan, you might find this quote a little disconcerting. Or perhaps you agree with it.
“For us, I think we have a good plan in place, we have a good staff in place and I think our players, for the most part, are playing tough, hard football right now,” Todd Bowles said. “It’s just a matter of making some critical changes in the second half as far as us making plays, so, I don’t feel there is a need to change right now.”
Do y’all think they have a good plan in place?
I don’t think they do, but that is just one man’s opinion.
I think they have messed up their defensive line by playing 4-3 defense. Mo Wilkerson is lining up over tackles to much, when some of his best work in past years was beating guards and centers. 300-pound tackle Sheldon Richardson is playing some kind of end/OLB position. His some of his best work has come inside.
Darron Lee has been rushed into action before he was ready, and he has made some critical mistakes.
They are having coverage issues at linebacker, and they keep Bruce Carter on the bench who had five picks in Dallas two years ago.
Darrelle Revis should have been moved to safety in the off-season.
On offense, they are very predictable and force the ball to Brandon Marshall too much.
So I don’t think they have a good plan in place.
And honestly, I wouldn’t be saying that right now with how they are playing. When you play as poorly as they have the last three weeks, how can you sell to the fan base – “we have a good plan in place?”
You might believe it. Personally, I wouldn’t say it.
Tough to sell that right now.
If he very stubborn or is he not telling us how he truly feels?
And how can you sell us on a good coaching staff with all the errors being made?
Bad time to be selling that product.
We all saw that touchdown by Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jessie James at the end of the first half – wide open in the middle of the end zone. That is illustrative of a defense in a really bad place right now.
Once again, I’m not saying he doesn’t have good coaches on his staff. Of course he does.
But how do you sell that now?
While I have issues with this quote, I did find one part of it to be a little revealing.
“I think our players, for the most part, are playing tough, hard football right now,” Bowles said.
“For the most part?
Who is he calling out?
Wilkerson?
But overall, to say, “I don’t feel there is a need to change right now,” I absolutely disagree.
Changes are needed – schematically and personnel-wise.
Kudos to Rex Ryan for changing his offense after two weeks, and winning three in a row.
And John Harbaugh in Baltimore for changing things up.
The last thing they need right now is status quo.
They need to do a thing or two to get the attention of those in the building, send a powerful message.
Because they are broken right now.
