It’s easy for Joe Namath and others to beat up the Jets over the Tim Tebow trade snag, but they did little wrong here – blame John Elway . . .
And if this Tim Tebow deal falls through for good, it’s not that big a deal.
If it works out, it would be interesting to see how it evolved, but if he goes somewhere else,, que sera sera.
They acquired a backup quarterback who isn’t much up a quarterback, but could have helped them in Wildcat formations.
But I wouldn’t pay that extra $5 million for him the Broncos are now demanding the Jets pick up the tab for. Would you?
No way. He’s not worth it.
He was worth taking a flyer on, but not with an extra $5 million on the tab.
“They’re kind of mixed up over there,” said Joe Namath, who is never “over there” at the Jets complex. “I’m talking about the folks that are making the decisions.”
How does he know that?
The announced they had “agreed in principle,” to make the trade. It wasn’t official, and then this extra money reared it’s ugly head.
It’s so easy for people to beat up the Jets over this, but, honestly, they did the right thing backing out of this deal when Elway pushed this $5 million on them.
While the New York press is going to crush the Jets on this one, because that is one of their hobbies, making a joke of the Jets.
But they did very little wrong here, and if they have to go with Mark Sanchez, Drew Stanton, Greg McElroy, with Jeremy Kerley helping out with the Wildcat, the results might not be any different, than if they had Tebow.
(After this was posted, the deal was finalized. If he’s coming in to compliment Mark Sanchez, in a Brad Smith Wildcat role, it’s hard to argue with this trade. Tony Sparano likes the Wildcat. And the Jets are desperate to sell club seats and luxury boxes, and this will probably help them do that. So the reason for this trade is two-fold. The concept that he is going to help them deal with their locker room and Santonio Holmes, is just flat-out dumb. He’s not Dr. Drew Pinsky. Drew Stanton should still be the back-up, passing quarterback, if something happens to Sanchez. Antonio Cromartie is pissed at this deal, but he wasn’t exactly defending Sanchez when his friend Manish Mehta (and they are friends) was trashing the quarterback with unnamed sources, left and right, on two occasions. Did you hear a peep out of him? I think he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth. Now, all of a sudden, he likes Sanchez as a quarterback.)
