Concord – It’s time for another edition of “Behind the Jets” with some interesting notes leading into the Jets-Patriots game on Thursday . . .
The release of Josh Bush comes as no surprise to me at all.
Nice guy, but he just didn’t make enough plays.
To be honest, he was lucky to get 2 ½ years.
Being the personal punt protector isn’t enough to keep you on the roster.
He was dealing with a quad, so he got an injury settlement.
Smart guy, so he should do well when his football career over . . .
The domestic violence charges against Quincy Enunwa were dropped today. In early September, he was charged with simple assault, for an incident with his girlfriend, at the Wyndham Hotel, across the street from Jets camp.
“She does not want to proceed with the charges,” prosecutor Gary Grabas told Morristown judge judge Gary Troxell, according to NJ.com “She feels comfortable with the decision.”
The domestic violence charge will be dismissed, as long as there is no contact between the two for 90 days.
If Enunwa abides by this arrangement, the charges will be dismissed with prejudice.
“With prejudice” that means they can’t retry Enunwa. It’s as if he’s not guilty.
So in other words, if he screws up in the next 90 days, the case will be re-examined. If he just adheres to no contact order for 90 days, the case is over.
He was accused of simple assault which means no battery and no dangerous weapon. It’s a fear that bodily harm will come to you. Enunwa and his former girlfriend were heard yelling at each other at the hotel.
This whole scene surprised people who know Enunwa, who was considered a great kid by the people around the Nebraska program.
And the fact that the Jets didn’t release him, after the charges, clearly points to the fact that they felt this would be the outcome.
The Jets have a number of former policemen, with great local connections, on their security theme. They found out the skinny on this, and this led to the Jets keeping him around . . .
The Patriots have Bryan Stork and Dan Connolly listed as “questionable” with concussion. Neither practiced all week.
Connolly has started at guard and Stork at center this year. I’m telling you, the Jets are going to eat up the Patriots’ interior, and get the kind of interior pressure that messes up Brady.
I’m not going to say the Jets are going to win. I have no idea, but I see a close game with these Patriots line issues.
Last week, one reason the Broncos offense wasn’t the typical Broncos offense was how much Damon Harrison and Mo Wilkerson dominated center Manny Ramirez.
Expect center domination again this week . . .
An underrated issue with the Jets poor running performance against Denver aside from eight and nine in the box – they miss Tommy Bohanon. On two running plays that went nowhere, I saw John Connor pick up nobody . . .
Marty Mornhinweg feels Geno Smith is trying to be too perfect.
Clearly Smith is afraid of throwing picks, or making other mistakes, so he’s not taking chances, picking the most conservative passing option possible.
The problem with this is that quarterbacks need to take chances in this league – throw guys open, throw 50-50 balls. The windows are so small in the NFL, that if you are waiting for big windows to throw into all the time, you have another thing coming.
