The cuts . . .
I don’t have a problem with most of what the Jets did on final cuts they made today.
At least Mr. Coffee released some of his draft picks.
If you notice a pattern, he never releases draft picks during their rookie year. Some teams do, he doesn’t.
Trenton Cannon should be on the practice squad – he had two muffed punts in the Jets’ first preseason game, and two dropped passes in the fourth game. If he was a undrafted free agent, he’d be gone.
Thomas Rawls, George Atkinson and Charcandrick West are better running backs NOW. The fix was in here.
Look, I think Cannon has a lot of potential, but there was a lot of anointing oil used by the Jets with his reps in camp and the preseason.
He needs a red-shirt year, but like I said, Maccagnan doesn’t cut rookies during their rookie year.
The Jets released three draft picks from 2017 – Chad Hanson, Dylan Donahue and Jeremy Clark.
Hanson had a strong spring, but an underwhelming training camp. I don’t think he was bad this summer, just nondescript. I wonder if he was healthy. He suffered what looked like a leg injury of note in Richmond. He was down for a while, but came back. He just didn’t look like himself this summer. I’d put him on the practice field.
The Jets are in dire need of a dominant edge-rusher, so if Donahue had a strong summer getting to the quarterback, his two DUI’s might not have been as big of a factor. Hey, Lawrence Taylor, had all kind off-the-field issues, but the Giants kept him around. Same with Charles Haley. Look at Dallas with Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence.
When you can get to the quarterback, teams are very forgiving of bad behavior. Donahue doesn’t get to the quarterback enough
It’s not this fault, but he has very short arms, which make it tough for him to shed the blocks of offensive tackles with arms like vines.
Clark had trouble staying healthy. He came to the Jets rehabbing a knee, and this summer he was sidelined too much. In the middle of camp he was switched to safety, a new position for, so they might bring him to the practice squad and let him continue his safety development there.
It’s a big surprise that Juston Burris made the team. They probably convinced themselves he improved when he had that pick on a terribly off-target pass by Christian Hackenberg.
Burris didn’t have a good camp. I have said it a million times, with his tip stiffness and lack of long speed, he should be a safety.
I don’t think much has changed with this player – he can’t have an operation to loosen your hips.
Maybe he’s improved a tad, but you can’t let one interception impact your thinking . . .
For some reasons, Lorenzo Mauldin, who was cut today, didn’t get a ton of reps on practice and in the preseason games. The Jets were starting Jordan Jenkins and Josh Martin, and playing Frankie Luvu and Brandon Copeland on the second team, most of camp and in the preseason. Mauldin had a hard time getting on the field. Don’t know why he fell so far down the totem pole, but it’s hard to show your wares when you can’t get on the field.
The Jets currently only have three outside linebackers on their active roster, so obviously they’re looking to claim somebody on waivers who can get to the quarterback. They should have their eye on Steven Means, waived by Philadelphia, who had three sacks against them in the preseason finale. I asked people in Philly after the game if they thought he would make the team, and they did. He didn’t. GM Howie Roseman said cutting Means was tough. The Jets need to jump all over this guy.
