Cromartie to play some receiver

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie is going to play some wide receiver. The announcement was made by Manish Mehta.

“I believe I can do it,” Cromartie told Mehta, who writes for the Daily News. “You got to pick your spots. You got to figure out what routes I can run, what routes I can’t run. That’s what we’re going to do. I can run every route in the route tree. They’re trying to make up a ‘Cro Package.’ So I’ll see what goes in there. I believe I can do it. You got to pick your spots. You got to figure out what routes I can run, what routes I can’t run.”

I’d have Cromartie just focus on playing corner, where he shows flashes of brilliance, but is somewhat inconsistent.

Why create distractions for him by having him play receiver, and also return kicks (something he’s mediocre at because he has a hard time changing directions with his long legs)?
