Waxhaw – The Jets various offensive line configurations were all inconsistent in Charlotte. Bill Callahan and his charges have some work to do.
On the Jets first pass attempt of the game, defensive end Everette Brown beat D’Brickashaw Ferguson off the edge to sack Mark Sanchez.
The Jets best running play of the game was on the first drive, a LaDainian Tomlinson’s jaunt up the middle for 20 yards. There was an enormous hole up the middle, opened by Nick Mangold and Brandon Moore. Moore did a great job on the second level, locking up linebacker James Anderson.
On the Jets second possession, Brown had another sack. This time, the defensive end stunted up middle and this led to a mismatch with LT, and the FSU-product flung the running back out of way and sacked Sanchez.
Also on the second possession, Nick Mangold didn’t sustain his block long enough and Ed Johnson slipped off him to stop Shonn Greene after a gain of one. On the next play, Moore manhandled Johnson, and Green ran behind him for a gain of eight. On the next play, T-Rich has a devastating block on linebacker Jon Beason, and Green gained two behind him on third-and-one. T-Rich still has it.
Late in the first quarter, Beason went unblocked and stopped Shonn Greene for a loss of seven at the end of the first quarter.
In the middle of the second quarter, the Jets backup line had two poor plays in a row. Defensive tackle Tank Tyler blew by Vlad Ducasse and the defensive tackle buried Mark Brunell into the turf after he threw. On the next play, defensive end Greg Hardy blew by Mike Turkovich and stopped Danny Woodhead for a loss of four yards.
Defensive tackle Derek Landri blew by Ducasse, with a quick inside move, for a QB pressure late in the second quarter.
One of Ducasse’s better plays was Joe McKnight’s first run of the second half that gained five yards. Ducasse pancaked defensive tackle Corey Irvin to open up the hole. That wasn’t his only pancake. On the last play of the third quarter, Vlad pancaked Irvin again and Chauncey Washington ran behind him for seven yards.
Eric Moore beat Turkovich around the edge to sack Kellen Clemens on his own one-yard-line late in the third quarterback.
Defensive takcle Nick Hayden got by Rob Turner up the middle to sack Clemens late in the third.
There was a major problem on the left side on the Eric Moore sack at the top of the fourth qurter – he went unblocked, and it looked like two guys went to one guy and it left Moore unblocked – a stunt problem.
Matt Slauson moved the pile on Washington‘s first carry – a gain of six up the middle. Slauson had a key block on Hayden up middle on a McKnight gain of six in the middle of the third quarter.
