A variety of Jets notes from Dan. Check it out. Just $7.95 per month or sign-up for a combo deal . . .
News about compensatory draft picks is starting to trickle out? Are the Jets getting any?
“That formula is more secret than the formula for Coke,” said a source close to the team. “But I would highly doubt the Jets will get any compensatories. The general rule is you get comps when you lose a lot more UFAs than you sign in the previous year. The Jets lost Jay Feely and signed Jason Taylor? That’s a wash. My prediction: No compensatories. We should know soon. They’re announced at the end of March.” . . .
Some positive news on the furlough front. We hear furloughed employees can file for unemployment insurance . . .
I like Pete Kendall personally, and he was always helpful from a media standpoint, but considering his history, do you feel confident with a CBA getting done, with “Pistol Pete” in the forefront of the negotiations?
Remember he was nicknamed “Pistol Pete” by a beat writers because he effectively “shot his way” off the Jets.
“Compromise is not in his vocabulary,” said one long-time Jets observer . . .
The Sports Business Journal loves Matt Higgins.
Once again, they named him to their list of “Forty Under 40.”
It obviously honors sports executives under 40.
We doubt the Giants had a vote in this one.
He doesn’t have a lot of fans over there. They were really pissed about the coin flip stunt (regarding which team would get the first home game at Giants Stadium).
And we doubt PSL holders were voters either.
We aren’t saying he’s not talented (It was his idea to allign teams with State Lottery’s), but he does have his detractors . . .
It shouldn’t come as a surpise that Jerricho Cotchery had back issues last year. Remember, he had played a big chunk of the year with a badly pulled muscle. These kind of injuries often lead to back problems.
With Cotchery’s injury woes, and the uncertain futures of Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards, look for the Jets to grab a receiver in the third or fourth round.
Though they do really like Logan Payne and Patrick Turner from their practice squad.
