Denver might be the most banged up team in the league . . .
Don’t put Cam Newton or Kevin Kolb in Canton just yet.
Both of Kolb’s TD passes last week, against Carolina, were to WIDE open receivers – first tight end Jeff King (nobody was near him) and Early Doucet on a crossing route, where the closest defender was in Flagstaff.
Cam Newton’s long TD pass, to Steve Smith, was thanks to a blown coverage by former Jets safety Kerry Rhodes. The Cardinals blitzed, and Kerry needed to keep Smith in front of him, and he didn’t.
The Cardinals are putting in a new defense, and their secondary is thoroughly lost – same with Carolina . . .
It’s scary how deep the Giants are with pass rushers. Last week, with Justin Tuck and Osi out, last year’s first round pick, DE Jason Pierre-Paul, torched a fellow 2010 first round, Washington LT Trent Williams, for two sacks.
Can you imagine how awesome the Giants rotation will be when Tuck and Osi return, and they rotate with Mathias Kiwinuka and Pierre-Paul.
I hate to break it to you Jets fans, but all four of those guys are better pass rushers than the Jets have.
And I hate to break this news to you, but John Abraham had two sacks in the Atlanta opener in Chicago, and could add to that total with Philadelphia left tackle Jason Peters possible missing the game with an ankle injury.
The Jets can talk about sacks being overrated all they want, but they are in desperate need of a game wrecker at OLB, and they still don’t have one.
You saw when last week in DeMarcus Ware . . .
The Patriots are playing a lot of 4-3, and their defensive tackle tandem of Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth is scary . . .
Speaking of good defensive lines, the Jets offensive line better get their act together for their trip to Oakland next week. The Oakland D-Line is outstanding featuring Richard Seymour, Tommy Kelly and Lamar Houston . . .
The Raiders have a big problem in Buffalo – two of their best receivers, Jacoby Ford and Louis Murphy, are out with hamstring injuries (there is a hamstring epidemic around the league, likely due to the lockout), and Darius Heyward-Bey is also hurt, and didn’t practice all week . . .
Cleveland is a mess. They are going into Indy, against Freeney and Mathis, with a right tackle they signed off the street last week – Oniel Cousins.
There was a play in the Bengals game, where A.J. Green was wide open for a touchdown because Cinci went no-huddle, and the Browns didn’t have their play sent in yet.
The Browns were killed by the lockout – new coaching staff with no off-season – a recipe for disaster . . .
Miami could get a huge break in their game against Houston. The Texans excellent #2 receiver, Kevin Walter, will likely miss the game with quad and shoulder injuries. Walter is a guy who makes teams pay when they double Andre Johnson. Not having that crutch, will hurt Matt Schaub at Sun Life Stadium.
Enjoy the games. Premium will return early Monday afternoon.
