We have a bunch of things to get into in the latest edition of Website Whispers. There are so many things to get into, let’s get started . . .
The Jets are the healthier team entering this game.
The only iffy player on the injury report is Marcus Williams who is questionable. All the other injured players are probable.
The Titans will be without one of their top pass rushers, outside linebacker Derrick Morgan who has a shoulder injury. Also starting receiver Kendall Wright is out with a rib injury, and his backup, Tre McBride, is questionable with a groin injury. And remember, talented receiver Justin Hunter is already in IR.
Also on IR is starting cornerback Jason McCourty.
So the Jets definitely have a health advantage in this contest . . .
Darrelle Revis isn’t happy with Daily News writer Manish Mehta.
When addressing the media yesterday, whenever Mehta asked a question, he gave him one-word answers.
After several attempts, Mehta told his Daily News compatriot Seth Walder to ask the same question, but Revis didn’t fall for this. He clearly knows Walder works with Mehta, and he gave him a short answer as well.
Mehta wrote a column critical of Revis a couple of weeks ago, and clearly Revis is cognizant of that.
Obviously Revis isn’t the same player as the past, but he’s still very good.
But Todd Bowles needs to deal with reality, and not act like this is the Revis of five, six years ago who can hold up on an island by himself, 100 percent of that time. He can’t.
It will be interesting to see how the Jets handle Revis upon his return. The last time we saw him he was struggled mightily against DeAndre Hopkins, before leaving the game in the third quarter with a concussion.
Will that game finally open Bowles eyes to the reality of the situation? No more Revis Island. Of
course he should start, but give him help when he needs it.
The Jets went 2-0 without Revis.
He’s not their messiah, but still a good player who needs help on occasion. They should not let the massive contract cloud their judgement. That is no way to run a team. Deal with reality. Forget about the money . . .
The return of safety Dion Bailey from a high ankle sprain should help the Jets’ special teams. Bailey is an excellent kick and punt cover guy . . .
Over the last eight games, no team has given up more yards through the air then the Jets . . .
Lorenzo Mauldin is turning into a decent fourth round pick for the Jets.
He quietly had a very good game against the Giants.
In the second quarter, he had a QB pressure on Eli Manning forcing an incompletion.
In the third quarter, he had impressive back-to-back plays on left tackle Ereck Flowers. First he drew a holding call on Flowers bringing back a 35-yard pass. He did a nice job of dipping his shoulder, gain an advantage leverage-wise, and forcing the hold. On the next play, he beat Flowers with a quick first step, and in recovering, Flowers ended up twisting his ankle and having to leave the game.
Jets outside linebacker coach Mark Collins has done a real nice job with Mauldin teaching him technique.
He looks like he’s going to be a good player for the Jets with his great motor and now improved technique.
