Dolphins sign player not likely on Sanchez’s Christmas card list

The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive tackle Marvin Austin, it was announced today. To make room on the roster for Austin the team placed defensive tackle Vaughn Martin on the Reserve/Injured list.

The 6-2, 312 pound Austin joins Miami after spending the last two seasons with the New York Giants (2011-12).  He was selected in the second round with the 52nd overall pick by the Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft. In his career, Austin played in eight games, registering five tackles, for the Giants in 2012 after missing the 2011 season after being placed on the Reserve/Injured list on August 30, 2011.

Austin appeared in 38 games with 25 starts at the University of North Carolina, recording 106 tackles (59 solo) with nine sacks, 13.5 tackles for a loss, and 14 quarterback pressures. Born January 10, 1989 in Washington D.C., Austin attended Washington (DC) Ballou High School.
