What is the that old saying about
Insanity?
Albert Einstein once said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”.
Another bad performance by the Jets’ defense, and the same problems keep rearing their head.
And Todd Bowles keeps rolling with the same guys.
I’m starting to wonder if he’s worried about hurting feelings.
After all, these are human beings we are talking about. This isn’t a board game.
A guy like Bill Belichick has no problem benching guys and making constant lineup changes.
Others have a harder time perhaps because they don’t want to embarrass people.
Over and over and over again, the Jets are getting gashed by big runs up the middle, last week in Buffalo, this week in Oakland, last year in San Francisco, you get the point.
A lot of these runs are at Darron Lee, who is miscast as a 3-4 inside linebacker. The poor kid is constantly getting pancaked by massive offensive linemen.
That isn’t his fault.
It’s the fault of Mike Maccagnan for picking him to play in a system he doesn’t fit.
It’s the fault of Todd Bowles for continuing to start him, even though it’s causing a major problem for the Jets’ run defense.
But they keep rolling him out there, regardless of the results.
Is it because they are worried about their draft record?
Is it because they are worried that ESPN or the Daily News will rip them if they bench a first round pick?
How would you explain it?
Also, how do you explain continuing to start Buster Skrine after two years and two games of wild inconsistency?
Buster is a great guy. Are they afraid of embarrassing him by making a change?
They have Justin Burris playing on an island with no help like he’s Deion Saunders. I think he’s safety, or a #4 or #5 cornerback. He has hip stiffness and speed limitations. They role him out there like he’s Richard Sherman. Burris, a great kid, had a terrible game today. He gave up two touchdowns to Michael Crabtree and also was involved in some long running plays.
The Jets’ defense embarrassed themselves two weeks in a row.
Coach Bowles can keep saying, “we all need to play better,” but it’s not a simple as that.
They need to make lineup changes.
This isn’t T-Ball.
It’s the NFL.
You can’t worry about hurting feelings.
Unless you are looking to get fired.
If Bowles doesn’t start to make some changes, there is a good chance this will be his last season as Jets coach.
This defense is broken. Bowles is a defensive guy. That is how he made his bones.
When something is broken, you need to fix it.
To keep saying, “we all need to play better,” is fortune cookie messaging.
If Bowles rolls with the same lineup next week, without any changes, maybe he’s not the right guy for this job.
You can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
That makes no sense
