Cleveland – A few different things to get into in our latest edition of “Friday Night Whispers.”
I just can’t believe this nonsense goes on.
Is there a lack of institutional control in Florham Park?
I’m talking about the Jets’ social media department talking smack and putting extra pressure on the players.
Earlier today, the Jets had a tweet directed at the Browns with a sad dog wearing a cone and the hashtag: “sit.” It was deleted.
I just don’t get this sort of behavior.
A team’s social media department shouldn’t be putting extra pressure on the Jets’ players by firing up an opponent.
That makes zero sense to me.
This is going to be used as bulletin board fodder by the Browns.
I just don’t understand how this happens?
You can’t let kids out of college, working in entry level jobs, spout off like this?
Can you imagine if somebody in New England did this? Oh my goodness.
And this stuff has happened before; arrogant stuff from the Jets’ social media department.
I remember when they dissed New England after Bill Belichick didn’t take the ball in overtime two years ago.
Stay in your lane, Jets social media department
And more importantly, the Jets higher ups need to take more control.
All those myriad Jets vice presidents, and those above them, need to make it clear this stuff is unacceptable . . .
If I’m the Cleveland Browns, I’m pounding the rock on Sunday.
They are putting too much pressure on their rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer with a pass-happy approach, which is never good for a young QB.
Also, the Jets’ run defense is 29th in the league, and has really only had one decent run defense game, that was Week Three against Miami. The other three games, the Jets were gashed.
Kacy Rodgers called out the Jets’ run defense this week.
“It’s not just the standards of the Jets, it’s the standards of our manhood,” nose tackle Steve McLendon told ESPN. “We know what kind of team we want to be and, in order to be that kind of team, we have to stop the run. We’ve got to handle it. It’s something we’ve got to take care of, and I think we will.”
Not 100 percent sure they will unless they tweak the lineup because the same thing keeps happening over and over again. I will leave it at that . . .
I was dead wrong about Kony Ealy the other day.
He’s out with a shoulder injury.
Seeing him in the locker room with no wrap or anything on his shoulder made him think he was doing better than he actually was.
Recently signed defensive end Ed Stinson, who has a history of being very good against the run, is going to come in handy this week for the Jets.
It will be interesting to see what the Jets do this week at outside linebacker with Ealy, Josh Martin and Dylan Donahue all out.
They did sign linebacker Obum Gwacham off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, but he has very little NFL experience, and looks a little on the lean side. Freddie Bishop who is on the practice squad would seem like the better option this week because he’s stouter against the run and knows the system better.
Gwachum, who is from Nigeria, is 6-5, 240 and runs 4.7, so he might be able to help the Jets’ pass rush, but it’s hard to predict that right now, because he’s played so little on the NFL gridiron after bouncing around a few practice squads.
