A few things to cover today . . .
Leonard Williams said it’s “tricky” preparing for the Colts offensive line because they have had some many different starters and starting configurations this year, due to injuries.
This week it looked like they might actually have their starting offensive tackles back together with left Anthony Costanzo returning from a hamstring injury (he hasn’t played a game yet) and it was thought right tackle Denzel Good, would return from bereavement leave after his brother was murdered. But now it turns out that Good is out – they are going to give him some more time to deal with this horrible tragedy.
Their center, Ryan Kelly, is a game-time, and they just put guard Matt Slauson on IR.
Maybe they need to change how they train, because the last few years the amount of injuries in Indy have been insane.
The Jets front seven should be able to take advantage of all this instability.
Though, it should be noted, in their new offense, under Frank Reich, it calls for the quarterback to get the ball out of his hands a lot quicker than the team’s previous offense . . .
Henry Anderson was a huge help in the Jets’ defensive preparation for Andrew Luck. Not only did Anderson play with Luck in Indianapolis, but also at Stanford . . .
The Colts will be without tight end Jack Doyle, and their other main tight end, Eric Ebron is listed as “questionable” with FOUR injuries – shin, quadricep, ankle and knee. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a player listed with four different injuries on the official NFL injury report.
However, it looks like Ebron is going to play, and if the Jets aren’t careful, he could be a nightmare for them. He’s a big, fast tight end, and he looked excellent in the Colts’ last game, a Thursday night loss to New England, with nine catches and two touchdowns. He ran a 4.6 forty when he came out of the University of North Carolina. However with shin, quad, ankle and knee injuries, if he plays, not sure he will be running 4.6 at MetLife Stadium will all those leg injuries.
But Andrew Luck loves throwing to him, so Darron Lee better bring his A-Game, and have a strong feel for his keys, and avoid taking false steps and having to play catch-up covering this guy. That won’t work . . .
Speaking of coverage, the Jets will be without #1 cornerback Trumaine Johnson and #3 cornerback Buster Skrine.
That might sound like a disaster for most teams, but both have been inconsistent this year, so honestly, it shouldn’t devastate the Jets. I don’t mean this to be flippant, but as Bill Parcells loved to say, “Going by what I see.”
Johnson is a talented cover guy, but is speed-challenged, and that has led to some match-up problems, like in Jacksonville on the long touchdown to Donte Moncrief.
As for Skrine, I have no comment. I think I’ve said enough here. The Jets have a different worldview here than I do. Great guy . . .
Jets punt and kick returner Andre Roberts, who the team’s brass loves, looks good to go for Sunday. He has elbow and football issues, but practiced full today
Great signing by the Jets – he’s stabilized both their punt and kick return situations . .
