QB situation . . .
Sam Darnold practiced on a limited basis all three practices this week and is listed as “questionable.” Josh McCown practiced full today and isn’t listed.
It would make little to no sense to start a rookie quarterback who didn’t practice full all week. Rookie quarterbacks need every rep they can get. Last time we saw Darnold, he threw four picks at Miami. Sound like a guy who should be practicing on a limited basis in preparation for a Sunday game?
Remember, last Sunday, Ian Rapoport announced, “Sam Darnold likely won’t be back until Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills.”
That is the way this is looking.
But it was interesting that Rapoport kind of hedged his bet today, basically saying it’s unknown who will start Sunday.
My guess is his source, likely the agent, or somebody in the building, told him to back off a little bit to create some mystery.
To me, this looks like he’s coming back next week – limited practice and questionable doesn’t sound like an equation that leads to rookie QB starting . . .
Jets practiced inside today. Why?
They are playing an outdoor game on Sunday.
Granted, Nashville is a little warmer this time of year than Florham Park. It’s going to be 68 degrees on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
It’s been in the 40’s this week when the Jets’ practice. All three Jets practices – Wednesday-Friday – were inside.
Why not go outside today? It’s not that bad here in Florham Park.
Some might think this was strange and perhaps a case of a team being babied. But other people might see this as a coach taking care of a beat-up team late in the season . . .
This game is like an in-season Super Bowl to the Tennessee Titans. They are 5-6 and need to get to 6-6 badly to stay in the playoff race. Big difference between 5-7 and 6-6. Expect very creative game plans from Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur and defensive coordinator Dean Pees (along with head coach Mike Vrabel who is very involved in the defense). They’re going to pull out all the stops. How will this approach match up against perhaps a lame-duck staff that might be worrying about their next jobs? Hey, the Jets might be fine, but you have one staff trying to salvage their playoff chances, and the other perhaps getting their resumes updated. Hey, it might be meaningless, but definitely food for thought . . .
Jordan Jenkins is playing with a bad shoulder. He’s listed on the injury report, but has practiced full all week, so people don’t think it’s a big deal. However, he’s playing with one of those shoulders harnessed to keep his shoulder in place. The guy is incredibly tough, but maybe they should consider spelling him more.
We are talking about who gives you everything he’s got, but has athletic limitation (not his fault) – he’s heavy-legged and not quick twitchy, and now he’s playing basically with one arm.
The Jets’ run defense was bad the last two weeks, don’t you think, perhaps, an outside linebacker, already with limitations, playing with one arm, is a problem?
The coach seems to be old-school – if the trainer says a starter can play, he will play, like Spencer Long with the finger issue in Miami.
Yeah, perhaps a guy can play with it, but can he play well? That is an important question to ask. Like with Brian Winters playing for two months last year with a sports hernia. He could go out there, but it was hurting his mobility.
