Just the kind of receiver you want to add in this environment

He’s just what the doctor ordered.

Because Jets receivers have been dealing with a lot of doctors lately, including Vyncint Smith (sports hernia) and Denzel Mims (hamstring).

The Jets signing of veteran receiver Chris Hogan makes a ton of sense, especially during a summer with no preseason, and little time to prepare for the opener.

Hogan, 32, has been around the NFL block a few times, and has a PHD in playing receiver in the NFL. He’s been with San Francisco, the New York Giants, Miami, Buffalo, New England and Carolina.

“You know, you got a guy that’s, he’s been around for a [while],”said Jets coach Adam Gase. “He’s played on some really good teams, he’s played in some big games.”

And after being in myriad NFL playbooks, he’s picking up the Jets’ system fast.

“He’s a quick study,” Gase said. “I mean for him to be able to jump in there on some of the plays today and know where to line up, and know what to do, and be able to execute, make a couple catches and (be) very competitive, I like being around him.”

And after making the league as a long-shot who played mainly lacrosse in college, Hogan always has the mindset of an underdog with something to prove.

“He’s a guy that, from the time he’s come into the league, he hasn’t changed his big chip on his shoulder, always trying to prove people wrong,” Gase said.
