This stuff is such bull-feathers. May the buyer beware . . .
A lot of this going on now, headlines promoting answers the writer doesn’t have. Kind of like false advertising.
Website headline today – “Jets Mailbag: How Gang Green views Louisville QB Lamar Jackson”
I didn’t click on the story because the writer doesn’t know what the Jets think of Lamar Jackson.
End of story . . .
Kony Ealy was on the NFL Network this morning and was asked about playing his former team the Carolina Panthers.
“I’ve got a lot of friends I played with over there and a lot of coaches,” Ealy said. “It’s going to mean more to me playing in that game and just being fired up about going out there and just really doing what I need to do for my team. But also, getting a little revenge, I guess you could say.”
Revenge for what?
Panthers did nothing wrong. Ealy wore out his welcome in Carolina.
Panthers traded him to New England last off-season, and he was released before he played one game.
Ealy was brought in to help the Jet pass rush, and he has one sack so far, and his run defense has been average.
Late in the Jets’ last game, a loss to Tampa Bay, on 3rd-and-15 from the Bucs’ 39, the Jets allowed running back Charles Sims to run for 21-yards off left tackle. It was terrible play for the Jets.
A key to the run was the Ealy taking an inside move on the left tackle, failing to seal the edge, and Sims ran into the gaping hole off left tackle for the long run.
One thing Ealy’s done very well is tip passes – he has nine of those this season.
They need a monster game from him against the Panthers. I understand sacks aren’t everything, but one sack is a little underwhelming.
The Jets need more in the pass rush department from him – there is no doubt about it.
But not for revenge. The Panthers didn’t do anything wrong . . .
One reason the Jets have had issues closing out games is substandard cornerback play.
They need to mix things up a little.
The Mo Claiborne injury was a tough blow for them, but not unexpected. He’s a talented player, and really good guy, but has major issues staying healthy. That is well-documented. He missed 35 games in five seasons in Dallas. The Jets got a half-season out of him before he broke down. We will see if he can come back from this foot ailment.
It’s time for the Jets to get Rashard Robinson in the mix. I understand why they didn’t want to rush him out there after a mid-season trade – he didn’t know their system. But now we are about a month removed from the trade, so he should be ready to do something. The kid has a lot of talent – tall, fast and aggressive, a big-time recruit when he went to LSU out of Pompano Beach.
They’ve got to so something.
How on earth could the Jets go with exactly the same plan that contributed to them blowing several games late prior to the bye-week?
That would be crazy.
Something needs to change.
