Jay Gruden on the Jets Dan Leberfeld

Q)What has made the Jets so good at takeaways?

Gruden: They have a great defensive line, their linebackers are fast, physical and they can cover. They are active, they are fast and they’re disruptive. They’re excellent against the run and then you say, let’s throw some quick passes and get the ball out our hands and they play tight man-to-man. They’re good across the board.

Q)Has Brandon Marshall surprised him with his resurgence?

Gruden: I never thought he ever died. He’s big, strong and physical. We haven’t had to play him here in a while, but I’ve always thought of him as a top-notch wide receiver in the NFL.

Q)Is Bowles one of the tougher coaches to prepare for with his assorted blitz packages?

Gruden: Yeah, he is. It definitely keeps you awake at night. He’ll draw up all these looks and you never know which one you are going to get. I’m sure he’ll have a couple new designs for us that we’ll have to figure out on the sideline.

Q)Brandon Scherff over Leonard Williams with the fifth pick . . .

Gruden: [Williams] a heck of a player. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s physical and he can move. I don’t think we could have gone wrong with either pick really, and I’m happy with the pick we got and I know they’re happy with the pick they got. We feel good about our offensive lineman we got, Brandon (Scherff), and he can move around and play tackle and guard. He’s playing very good at guard for his first year. He’s been very productive for us.

Q)What are you seeing from Darrelle Revis?

Gruden: Same level that he’s always played with. The best in the league as far as corners are concerned. He’s what every corner aspires to be. In a match up with the top receivers, he can play bump and run, he can play off, play the slot. There’s really, like I said before, he doesn’t really have a weakness.

Q)What do you think of Chris Ivory?

Gruden: He’s a physical runner, that’s for sure. He plays hard. Every time he carries the ball he looks like an angry runner, and physical. It’s going to take our group effort, like we preach all the time, to bring him down. I tell our guys Chris Ivory is going to run as hard and as physical from the first carry to the last carry.
