Jets honor Long Island coach

The New York Jets announced today that Buddy Krumenacker of Farmingdale (N.Y.) High School has been named this week’s recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 16th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Krumenacker is in his 42nd year of coaching and his 30th as a head coach. He spent his first 11 years at Hempstead High School from 1978-88 and has been at Farmingdale since 1993. Krumenacker and his teams have had numerous accomplishments in these years: 25 winning seasons, 22 playoff-qualifying teams, 10 conference playoff championships, five-time Long Island Finalist, 19 Big IV Championships, five Rutgers Cups (Long Island’s Most Outstanding Team), and a 34-game unbeaten streak from 1984-87.

The Farmingdale alumnus, class of 1965, served as a dean of discipline at his alma mater for 22 years before retiring.

On Saturday, the Farmingdale Dalers defeated the Valley Stream Eagles, 26-20, to improve to 3-3 on the year. This win gave Coach Krumenacker his 200th victory as a head coach. The Dalers’ next opponent will be at home when they face the Massapequa Chiefs on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m.
