Jets expected to keep Sanchez around for a while

The Jets are expected to keep Mark Sanchez around, at least until the summer. The announcement was made by Newsday’s Bob Glauber.

“League source: Jets expected to retain QB Mark Sanchez into preseason, let him compete for starting job. Sanchez to show up for work tomorrow,” tweeted Glauber.

The Jets have a crowded quarterback room right now with Sanchez, David Garrard, Greg McElroy, Tim Tebow, Matt Simms and the latest addition, 2013 second round pick Geno Smith.

The super-raw Smith isn’t ready to start, so the competition will likely come down to Sanchez, Garrard and McElroy. Simms, at this point, isn’t considered a serious contender for the job. Tebow isn’t expected to be around much longer.
