Morris County – Some different inside stuff to get into today . . .
Kevin Pierre-Louis is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.
I asked him if he expects to play on Sunday.
“That is my thought-process,” he said.
He suffered this injury at Buffalo, but played through it.
But then when they got back to New Jersey Sunday night on their charter, he realized it was more of a problem then he realized, and went right to the facility for night treatment.
When a player gets injured on the road, instead of waiting to start the treatment the next day, the team has players come right to their facility at night, to get on top of the injury as fast as possible . . .
Isaiah Crowell has been ruled out with a toe injury.
I saw him limping leaving the locker room after practice . . .
ESPN headline today – “Jets’ top rusher and receiver out vs. Texans.”
You see a headline like that, and some might react with, “Wow, they’re screwed.”
But that’s really not the case here.
Eli McGuire is playing fairly well and isn’t a big drop off from Crowell, who is a good runner, but not star.
As for Quincy Enunwa being out, that isn’t the kind of injury that will cripple the Jets.
He’s not really the true top receiver, I’d say Anderson and Enunwa are kind of 1 and 1A.
And Jermaine Kearse has started a lot here, and they also have Rishard Mathews, who is very underrated as I mentioned yesterday.
Also, Chris Hernson is clearly one of their top two or three passing game weapons.
The ESPN writer also tweeted, “The Jets ruled OUT RB Isaiah Crowell (toe) and WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle). Only their leading rusher and receiver, respectively.”
To me, this is making a mountain out of a molehill.
This isn’t like the old Dallas Cowboys ruling out running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin for the same game.
Look, Crowell and Enunwa are good players, but you guys and gals have watched the games, are they “the sky is falling” kind of injuries.
No way . . .
Jets cornerback Parry Nickerson as wearing a scout team jersey with #25 on it. That is Houston Texans safety Kareem Jackson.
So while Nickerson clearly is good enough to replace Buster Skrine (clearly nobody has been the last four years), he’s been a big help to them on the scout team, giving the Jets offense a good look . . .
The Jets are calling Jordan Jenkins (ankle/shoulder) a game-time decision. He’s listed as questionable.
The shoulder injury isn’t new. He’s been playing with one of his shoulders strapped in with a harness the last few games.
So it’s the ankle injury that has lead to the questionable status.
The issue here is that this is a player, who is as tough as nails, but speed-challenged. Do you want him out there even more speed challenged with a bad wheel?
Knowing how much the coaches like him, I’d say the answer is “yes”
This is a player who plays hard and gives you everything he’s got, but the problem is he sometimes struggle sealing the edge, and scrambling quarterbacks can “take the edge” as scouts would say on Jenkins.
So the Jets need to be careful here facing DeShawn Watson with an OLB playing on a bad ankle.
Something to keep in mind.
