The Jets lost out on safety Reggie Nelson, who re-signed with Cincinnati.
Also, they “lost out” on another free agent safety, Brandon Meriweather, who signed with Washington.
While Antonio Cromartie and others are concerned about the Jets not landing a safety yet, they shouldn’t be.
Nelson and Meriweather are average players, who have bounced around, and not lived up to their first round pedigree. Losing out on both of them really isn’t a big deal.
You can find safeties.
O.J. Atogwe would be fine.
The Jets will also likely pick one in the first few rounds of the draft – maybe Mark Barron in the first round, or Harrison Smith in the second.
This is far from a crisis right now.
(A few hours after this blog appeared, the Jets agreed to terms with former Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry.)
