It’s time for a helping of Jets Website Whispers, with notes on Dennis Thurman, Marty Mornhinweg, Tim Tebow and Darrelle Revis . . .
The Jets two new coordinators – Dennis Thurman (defense) and Marty Mornhinweg (offense) – will address the media for the first time next Monday.
They will speak to the team’s website this Thursday.
It will be interesting to hear what Thurman has to say about the Revis mess.
Thurman is more of a straight-shooter than Rex, so he might say something out of the box . . .
Once again, I hear today, that Tim Tebow WILL NOT be part of a Jets’ QB competition . . .
Some reporters who are either smitten with Darrelle Revis (he has charmed some of them), or Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod feed info to them to curry favor, will present the cornerback as a class active who is a victim here.
He’s far from a victim, and he’s not the Dali Lama, like some reporters want you to believe
To tell Michael Robinson (Seahawks fullback who is doing some media work this off-season) that it would be “awesome” to play for the 49ers, isn’t particularly classy, and is low road travel.
Like I’ve written many times, Woody Johnson (who I think needs to do a better job as an owner than the last couple of years), did nothing wrong here.
The “Revis might be traded” rumors started because Johnson, during the GM interviewing process, brought up to the men interviewing for the job, that that team had to figure out how to handle the Revis-situation moving forward.
How is that a personal affront to a player?
Revis has one year left on his contract, and the Jets have to figure out whether they are going to re-sign him, trade him, or let him play for them this year, and then walk.
This somehow came out that Johnson was looking to trade the corner.
And now it’s poor Revis, and he isn’t being treated right.
That is a crock.
How can you blame the owner for trying to figure out a plan moving forward with a player now involved in his fourth contract dispute in seven years?
This comment to Robinson that it would be “awesome” to play for the 49ers is yet another shot across the bow at the Jets from the Revis’ camp.
Perhaps it’s the final straw, the last bridge burned.
While the 49ers claimed, through some writers, they aren’t interested “right now.”
The operative words are “right now.”’
I still think the 49ers have a great deal of interest. They are perhaps a lockdown corner away from winning a Super Bowl.
And they have 15 draft picks. They have a loaded veteran roster; they don’t need 15 draft picks.
If they send three premium picks to the Jets, they can probably get this deal done.
I also think Denver is a wildcard here. Peyton Manning has a limited window, and they also need a lockdown corner to take the next step. Champ Bailey has taken a step back.
And remember one thing.
Revis is heck of a player, but he is no victim, and he’s no Mother Teresa.
Don’t let all these reporters who are charmed by him, or by his agents, fool you.
