Morris County, New Jersey – A few different things to get into today as the Jets’ players cleaned out their lockers . . .
Pro Football Talk reported that if Woody Johnson takes an ambassadorship, to perhaps England, his brother Christopher Johnson would take over the active ownership role.
This should come as no surprise. Most people don’t know this, but Christopher Johnson has been a Jets co-owner since the day Woody Johnson bought the team in 2000.
I think the first time many beat writers and others became aware of Christopher was when he was referenced by Ryan Fitzpatrick in a quote earlier this season.
That is the first time anybody had referenced Christopher by name over the 17 years Woody has owned the team.
But nonetheless he’s been a co-owner since Day One. Just like Woody’s mother, Betty Wold Johnson, is a co-owner of the Jets. All three have a piece of the team. It’s just that Woody was picked from the get-go to be the front man.
So Christopher isn’t going to become the Jets’ owner if Woody goes oversees. He’s already been a Jets owner . . .
This locker room discord angle being pushed is such bull crap.
The Jets’ locker room wasn’t the Jets problem, it was on-the-field issues, like having one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses in a passing league.
The Jets’ locker room problem was Sheldon Richardson and Brandon Marshall hating each other. That was basically it.
Two mercurial players not getting along doesn’t constitute a locker room problem.
Does something need to be done about these two players disdain for each other. Probably. It’s unclear if both are going to be back on the team, so right now, it doesn’t need to be dealt with as the players go away for three months before the off-season program starts.
But to act like the Jets are warring in their locker room is hogwash . . .
Todd Bowles met the media for the final time this year. Mr. Coffee will address the media on Thursday.
Bowles didn’t say much as per usual and I’m not complaining, just stating the obvious. I don’t think coaches are hired to “win press conferences.” Their job is to win games. I will break down some of Bowles comments in the coming days.
But let me say this about Bowles, he’s clearly pissed off at how this season went. He said that today and throughout the brutal season. And obviously this season got to him, manifesting itself in health issues late in the season.
The reason I bring this up is because Mike Maccagnan got criticized by some reporters after his mid-season press conference for not seeming that ticked off at what is going on. A little too milquetoast in the eyes of some.
From what I understand, some in the Jets’ organization took exception to the criticism Maccagnan received from the press.
Like I said before, I don’t think coaches need to “win press conferences.” I’d say the same thing about GM’s.
But with that being said, I do think that Maccagnan needs to use a little stronger language about this season on Thursday.
Less Mr. Rogers, and a little more Bill Parcells.
I’m not expecting him to throw Todd under the bus in regards to coaching, but he needs to toughen up his language some in regards to some of the players.
This isn’t T-Ball. It’s the NFL.
