Indianapolis – Reporting from Indy, Dan has notes on Isaiah Trufant, Kenny Vaccaro (pictured), Santonio Holmes and more. Let’s get this rolling.
I asked Washington CB Desmond Trufant how his brother Isaiah is doing in his knee rehab.
He said he’s rehabbing in New Jersey, and will be ready for training camp,
Trufant is a exclusive rights free agent which will cost the Jets very little.
They’d be nuts not to bring him back. He might have done the best job on Wes Welker in the league last year . . .
Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro, the best safety in the draft, on why he didn’t go to the Senior Bowl –
“I thought four years of (game) tape is enough,” Vaccaro said.
Great point . . .
If the Jets trade Darrelle Revis, they will likely add a cornerback in the first few rounds on this year.
UConn’s Blidi Wreh-Wilson is moving up the charts, and could make a nice second round pick.
He was asked who he patterns his game after.
“I base my game off Darrelle Revis – the same technique he uses, we use at UConn,” Wreh-Wilson said . . .
Wreh-Wilson, who is Liberian, is a really impressive, smart kid, who would learn the playbook fast . . .
Adam Schefter reported today that the Jets want to restructure Santonio Holmes’s contract.
This is such a bad idea.
First of all, he’s not going to give a dime back, so we aren’t talking about any kind of salary reduction.
Secondly, if they rework his deal, they are likely going to defer money and this could lead to him staying around
longer. Why would you want to do that? John Idzik already said he wants more “we” than “me” players.
This is one of the problems with Idzik being advised by the old personnel department and Rex Ryan on the roster.
I don’t think they are going to tell him the blunt truth on the current roster because the current roster are all decisions they made.
So they probably are going to be blunt with Idzik about what a problem Holmes is, since some of them were involved in handing him that crazy contract ($24.5 millin guaranteed).
And let’s not forget, he’s in the middle of rehab for a very serious foot injury. You don’t even know how he’s going to come back from it. So why would you re-work his contract and defer money?
The best thing for the Jets to do is bite the bullet this year, and just deal with his large cap number . . .
Somebody told me something very interesting about 6-7 North Carolina State quarterback Mike Glennon.
Sometimes very tall quarterback have long, windy deliveries because they generally have long arms, but Glennon has short arms, so he’s delivery is somewhat compact, which is a positive.
But any way you slice it, he’s a major project.
However, a good one to take on because he has a rocket . . .
There are rumors that Denver and Atlanta are interested in Shonn Greene as a free agent.
He’s likely done with the Jets.
And you know what, I can understand the Jets going in a different direction.
When you think about the Andy Reid-Marty Mornhinweg offense from Philly, they love those smaller quicker backs who excel in the passing game, and are good at running after the catch, with Brian Westbrook and Shady McCoy being perfect examples.
Greene isn’t that kind of back.
