To be quite honest, it’s shocking that the Jets brass would give $23.5 million in guaranteed money to Santonio Holmes.
If I were Woody Johnson, I would be very upset with my GM.
Mike Tannenbaum has made a lot of good moves, but this decision lacked foresight.
Do you think the Pittsburgh Steelers, with all those rings, are stupid?
The moody Holmes is bad for a locker room and team chemistry.
And the last couple of games, he’s been bad on the field.
He’s also a nightmare for the PR department.
Holmes decided this week he wasn’t talking to the press.
I personally don’t care if players talk to the press, but when you get paid that kind of coin, do you think you can help out the PR people by making yourself available, at least once.
But Holmes, who seems mad at the world on a regular basis, didn’t want to.
And with so much money guaranteed, if you thought he was tough to control before, forget about it now.
Mike T, what were you thinking? . . .
So many fans want Schotty fired, just like they wanted Hackett fired.
Here is my take on the situation.
As you know, Rex said today he expects Schotty back, unless he gets a head coaching job.
Where is that going to happen this year?
But if Schotty beats the odds and lands a head coaching position, than the Jets can move on, and not be responsible for the remaining two years on his contract.
However, if he doesn’t get a head coaching job, there is a chance he comes back.
There is no way Woody Johnson is eating a contract, that calls for about a $1 million per for the next two years.
And you know what, if he does, it will impact the Jets a little in free agency.
Do you really think Woody would eat $2 million and there would be no ramifications?
This is a team that had furloughs two of the last three years.
Here is what I think happens.
Schotty doesn’t get a head coaching job, but once new head coaches are hired, in places like St. Louis and Miami, the Jets give him permission to talk to those clubs about their OC openings.
Miami will have a keen interest in Schotty because Carl Peterson is now involved in the football operation, and the Schotteheimer’s and Peterson’s are close, from Marty’s long tenure as KC’s coach.
So if Miami wants to hire Schotty as offensive coordinator, the Jets will let him walk, and this way, Woody doesn’t have to eat the contract, by firing him, and risking him sitting out the year, relaxing and collecting a big fat check . . .
The only Jets player on the injury report, who seems iffy this week, is OLB Garrett McIntyre, who is nursing a knee injury. JC has learned it’s an MCL sprain.
While McIntyre hasn’t played a lot, they could use him this week against Miami’s 230-pound tailback Daniel Thomas. The Jets have had some issues at OLB stopping the run since the Bryan Thomas injury, and McIntyre is the most stout of the players who have replaced BT . . .
Kudos to the Jets organization for the freedom of speech they allow on SNY. Kris Jenkins and Ray Lucas were really going after Mark Sanchez on Thursday. Not a lot of teams would allow this kind of talk on a show produced by their TV partner . . .
The Jets will arrive in South Florida in the 5-6 pm vicinity on Saturday . . .
Premium will return by 8 pm on Sunday night.
Enjoy the Jets-Dolphins game.
