Florham Park – “Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.” It’s time for more of “The Good Stuff” from the Jets’ training facility in New Jersey. Let’s go.
Mark Sanchez attempted to throw a pass to Josh Baker over the middle, but he misread the defense, and the pass went right into the hands of Garrett McIntyre. He couldn’t hold on.
“Now we know why you don’t play tight end,” one official joked with McIntyre.
McIntyre also had a terrific run stop on a Shonn Greene run off right tackle. He is a very good “shed-and-stack” defender.
Speaking of shedding, McIntrye blitzed, he threw Bilal Powell to the side, and sacked Mark Sanchez.
This guy McIntyre continues to amazing.
He’s such an average athlete (as stiff as I am), but he just keeps making plays . . .
I didn’t see LB Brett Roy on the practice field or in the locker room.
You have to feel bad for the kid. He suffered a horrific concussion at the beginning of camp, and hasn’t been the same since . . .
Vlad Ducasse continues to make good progress at right guard. He did a great job on powerhouse Mike Devito, leading the way on a Shonn Greene run to the right side . . .
Jay Richardson had QB pressures on back-to-back plays.
If he doesn’t make the roster, you know Rex and Mike aren’t being forthright when they say, “we keep the best players.” . . .
Isaiah Trufant had quite a practice today.
He had a sack on a blitz, a nice PD on a deep out to Eron Riley and downed a punt inside the five.
Forget about his size, the guy is a very good football player who brings a lot to the table . . .
Massive nose tackle Damien Harrison burst into the backfield and stopped DeMarcus Ganaway for a loss.
The man still needs some polish, but has a lot of potential. He’s a load, and could make a nice practice squad player.
I think he might be better than Kenrick Ellis, but I’m not stupid, he’s not going to beat him out. This isn’t an open competition . . .
Darrelle Revis showed a rare outburst at practice today.
Royce Pollard beat him on an out, and he yelled “c’mon!”
He seemed to be upset with a young safety . . .
I heard fans at practice yelling for Rex to start Austin Howard over Wayne Hunter.
I’m sorry, I can’t go along with that plan right now. From what I’m seeing, he’s not better than Hunter.
Quinton Coples beat Howard for a sack today.
Howard was beat for a sack by DE Adewale Ojomo in the Giants’ game.
Let me just say this for Hunter, and please, no hate mail.
The stars were aligned very poorly for him against the Giants.
He missed a lot of practice time in Cortland with a bad back. And remember, there aren’t a lot of padded practices anymore, and two-a-days don’t exist anymore. So when he was practicing, there wasn’t a lot of “real” football going on.
So he goes out there against the Giants amazing pass rushers, with little practice, and gets no help from a tight end or tailback, and gives up a few sacks. For the Jets’ coaches not to give him blocking help on those guys was preposterous. I don’t care if you don’t game plan, protecting the QB should be the #1 priority of NFL teams, so why not play “max protect” against the Giants’ starting defense?
I’m not here to be a Hunter apologist, but when you continue all the factors I pointed out, he was destined to struggle against the Giants.
Let’s see what he does against Carolina.
Maybe the Jets can find another tackle (perhaps Kareem McKenzie), but I think it’s ridiculous that all these fans are yelling for Howard.
I’ve watched every practice this summer. Howard is not better than Hunter.
