New Jersey – Let’s be honest about this upcoming game. It’s not just because they should win the game because of playoff implications, but they have no excuse for losing from a football standpoint . . .
The Buffalo Bills promoted not one, but cornerbacks from their practice squad today – Merrill Noel and Sammy Seamster.
That is a big deal.
The is illustrative of the have major injury issues the Bills have at cornerback, which is far from ideal facing the Jets red-hot passing game.
The Bills just put cornerback Ron Brooks on injured reserve. He started last week against Dallas due to injuries to both starting cornerbacks – Stephon Gilmore and Ron Darby.
Gilmore was also put on IR, so now Brooks or Gilmore are done for the season.
And the status of Darby, a very good player, is up on the air. He has a groin injury and was limited in practice.
Making matters worse is another starting defensive back, safety Bacarri Rambo (knee, shoulder), is very iffy and didn’t practice today.
So it’s quite possible the Bills will be without ¾ of their starting secondary.
All this Rex talk. Rex this, Rex that.
It’s irrelevant who the opposing coach is, this Bills team is beyond ravaged. This isn’t a Rex issue, it’s an RX issue.
As I mentioned the other day, their starting right offensive tackle is out for the year. LeSean McCoy probably isn’t going to play and speedy tight end Charles Clay was just put on IR.
They are an absolute mess.
Rex showed some ankle today when he said to the Buffalo media, we “are a different team right now” than the one that faced the Jets earlier in the season.
He was talking about the injuries.
The Jets have no excuse – NONE – for not winning the game . . .
Ryan Quigley didn’t punt the ball very well today in practice.
Saw a couple of shanks, and other short ones. It was an ugly display.
You have to wonder if he has leg fatigue after all the punting he’s done this year.
Didn’t look good today . . .
Ryan Fitzpatrick was limited in practice today with left thumb, right elbow, back.
This is no surprise to me at all.
The man has taken an awful beating this year, and I’m not talking about his risky scrambling habits. Yes, that led to a left thumb injury, but this really isn’t what I’m talking about.
He’s taken so many hits on sacks or after he throws the ball, I’m surprised it took so long for him to be listed with injuries like a back or an elbow.
Jets are lucky he didn’t get hurt in that Houston game. J.J Watt was living in his face that game.
No question this offensive line has done some good work this year, but if the Fitz didn’t do such a good job of creating time with his feet, and completing passes while getting hit, we would be talking a lot more about the beating he has taken this year. He has made the pass protection look better than it actually has been.
So the listing we saw today didn’t surprise me at all.
And I’m surprised we didn’t see this sort of listing of myriad injuries sooner.
