It’s time for a heaping of helping of Dan’s Website Whispers, with a myriad of nuggets from Florham Park heading into the Dallas game . . .
The Jets waiver claim of Dallas S Andrew Sendejo last weekend received a lot of media attention over the course of the week.
To Rex Ryan’s credit, he didn’t try to downplay the fact that the Jets would pick Sendejo’s brain for Dallas info.
If I were Rob Ryan, I would be a littled ticked off at my brother (or Tannenbaum) for the move, unless Sendejo is with the Jets for a while.
But that’s just me.
I’m not into this espionage stuff in the NFL – it’s a little unfair to the player, who is put in a tough spot, having to spill the beans on some people he’s still close with.
One point that was brought up a lot this week was how Rob had to change some defensive signals because Sendejo might give them to the Jets.
Tony Romo actually brought this up.
You might think changing defensive signals is no big deal, but for Dallas, right now, it might be.
Keep in mind that Rob had no off-season to install is system because of the lockout.
He had about a month to do four months of work.
So do you really think it’s easy to throw new signals at players that are still learning a new system?
This isn’t like Rex changing signals for a defensive unit returning in the same system, with 10 of 11 starters back.
For Dallas, this is a pain. Rob’s players barely know what they are doing out there.
Changing defensive signals, at this particular time for Dallas, is no walk on the beach . . .
Not entirely sure what is wrong with Bart Scott’s elbow – perhaps it’s hyperextended, but he was getting it wrapped during a practice this week. It doesn’t seem to be a big problem . . .
The Jets nose tackle situation isn’t ideal right now.
Sione Pouha has an issue with his left knee, an injury suffered a couple of weeks ago, and his backup, Kendrick Ellis, is very raw, and in need of a lot of technique work. The Jets, other nose tackle, MTV, was moved down to the practice squad, so he’s not available this week.
Pouha is wearing a brace on his left knee.
“Sione, is your knee okay?” I heard Rex Ryan ask him this week.
“Bo” as he is called, is very tough, and will play extensively, but you wonder if this injury will have an impact.
With Dallas uncertain center situation following the release of Andre Gurode (signed by Baltimore), the Jets had a chance to really dominate first-time starter Phil Costa, but I’m not sure if they will be able to do it, considering the circumstances . . .
The Jets were very loose at Friday’s practice.
There were some contests at the beginning of practice. One had defensive linemen running deep routes, and seeing who could catch the ball down field (Jarron Gilbert was very impressive).
The defensive backs where playing a volleyball-type game, trying to keep a football in the air, while in a circle, as long as possible.
To Rex’s credit, he creates a very player-friendly atmosphere. Just ask Plaxico whose loving it so far. We all know how he feels about Coughlin’s atmosphere.
