Really, Tony?

Fullback Tony Richardson spoke to the media at a charity event on Tuesday.

Richardson, who is very active in the union, was asked how the CBA negotiations are progressing.

“We’re trying to get back on the field as fast as we can.,” Richardson said.

Trying to get back on the field as fast as you can?

That is hard to believe.

There are no talks scheduled until June, and it’s May 18. Does that qualify as “trying to get back on the field as fast as we can?”

There is plenty of blame to go around here.

The owners have done a poor job of explaining why they need a new CBA.

And the union thinks going to court is the only answer, refusing to work on new CBA in good faith.

I know all the writers love Richardson because he’s a class act, and he is.

But to say the players are “trying to get back on the field as fast as we can,” when they aren’t even negotiating, is a stretch.
