Strong accusation – is there merit to it?

New York Daily News writer Gary Myers, writing for Tuesday’s paper, leveled quite an allegation at the Jets’ brass.

“Rex Ryan named Geno Smith to start Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Colts at MetLife Stadium in a rigged quarterback competition that gives Michael Vick no chance to start the season opener against the Raiders unless Smith is injured,” wrote Myers.

Powerful words – “a rigged quarterback competition.”

Is he on to something?

I guess we will find out at the end of the summer.

If Vick clearly outplays Smith the rest of the summer, in practice and preseason games, and Smith is the still the starter, then perhaps Myers’ allegation is accurate.

We will see.
