Tannenbaum staying could work

I know people are quick to say Mike Tannenbaum being re-assigned can’t work.

Who says?

I think he’d do an amazing job in a role that focuses on the cap and contracts.

I know a lot of people will say – “he created a cap mess with the Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes contracts.”

No question, he didn’t do a great job on those deals. He made a few mistakes. It happens to the best of them. I’m not prepared to sit here and say he’s a bad cap and contract guy because of a few poor deals.

For many years he had a good track record in this department. Bill Parcells, when he was running the Jets, loved Tannenbaum’s work on the cap and contracts.

And remember, Tannenbaum will not have final say – the new GM will. So if he draws up a contract that doesn’t work for the new GM, he can tell Mike to get back to the drawing board.

Tannenbaum is a very smart guy.

And also isn’t a rabblerouser – he wouldn’t make trouble in his new role.

This scenario, with Tannenbaum staying, is something the owner reportedly wants.

And it can work.
