If people want to focus on Nick Folk’s missed 53-yard field goal as a big story from last night, have fun. Dan Leberfeld looks at more improtant issues in “Telling it like it is.” . . .
Mark Sanchez had 27.8 QB rating.
Former New England Patriot wide receiver Troy Brown said Sanchez isn’t a cold weather quarterback.
Perhaps that is the case, but how do you explain is performance in Detroit in a dome?
He’s an inaccurate quarterback (55 percent), so when you put him in inclement, wintry conditions, do you expect good accuracy? No.
He also has taken a big step back when it comes to reading defenses. It’s time to go back to the color-coding system of late last season. The Jets need to keep it real simple right now with Sanchez . . .
If Sanchez continues his Cincinnati, New England play in the first half against Miami, they should consider a quarterback change (in the game) . . .
Aside from writers asking about Nick Folk’s job security after he missed a 53-yard kick in terrible winter conditions, another dumb angle is about the play of Eric Smith.
People saying and writing he struggled replacing Leonhard is very shortsighted. Hello – covering tight ends has been a problem all year with Leonhard, don’t act like this problem just started . . .
The signing of Laveranues Coles for this game and making him inactive, as some kind of motivational move, was astonishing.
If I owned the team, I never would have checked off on that move.
What a reach!
I would have told Rex to pay for it himself if he thought it was such a good idea . . .
The Jets are too old in the Front Seven and it’s showing . . .
Rex constantly says Dennis Thurman is the best secondary coach in the business. Considering all the blown coverages this year and last, it’s hard to concur with that . . .
Regarding that Smith pass interference call in the end zone. He didn’t do a great job on the play, but I think the wind really changed the course of the ball, so that messed up his coverage a little.
Hey, I’m not a Smith apologist, and he did give up a few plays, but he was second on the team in tackles with seven, had a sack, quarterback hit and a tackle for a loss. Not a horrible day’s work . . .
I think Rex needs to make some changes on his staff this off-season. To have 11 days to prepare, and play the way the Jets did, clearly they needs to tweak the staff, get a few new minds in there . . .
Jeff Weeks is always around Rex, at practice and during the game. You have to wonder if Weeks, Rex’s college roommate, has too much imput. He’s a nice guy, but I don’t know if this is journeyman coach is somebody Rex should be leaning on as much as he does . . .
Drew Coleman shouldn’t have made the team this year. They should have moved on after last year. Mike Pettine and company are dilusional regarding this player. I would have kept Brian Jackson over him. He’s on the Giants now . . .
It’s astonishing how the Jets continue to be oblivious about what they have in Marquice Cole. I know he was hurt for a couple of weeks, but he was back on Monday night, and even with the issues Coleman was having, they still didn’t play him . . .
