For the third time in three months a Jets player was arrested.
“Jets linebacker Dylan Donahue was arrested early Monday morning after causing a wrong-way crash at the Lincoln Tunnel, authorities said,” wrote Caitlin Mota of the Jersey Journal. “Donahue crashed into a jitney bus that had 15 people on board. Four of the passengers suffered minor injuries and were brought to Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment, the spokesman said. The rookie linebacker failed sobriety and Breathalyzer tests and was placed under arrest. The passenger in Donahue’s car was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction during the investigation, police said.”
In December 15, cornerback Rashard Robinson, was arrested for possessing marijuana-laced candy in East Hanover, New Jersey.
On January 19, Robby Anderson was arrested in Florida for going 105 mph in a 45 mph zone and running multiple red lights according to the police report. Also, Anderson reportedly threatened to sexually assault the officer’s wife after getting pulled over.
If I were the owner of the Jets, I would be livid.
What happened to the changed culture we have heard about ad infinitum?
It’s flat-out embarrassing for a sports team, in any league, to have three players arrested in three months.
And the buck stops with Jets GM Mike Maccagnan. It’s his personnel department that brought in all these players, and they all had red flags.
Donahue had a drinking problem in high school.
Robinson was thrown of our LSU for Robinson for a failed drug test and unauthorized entry into a teammate’s apartment.
There are reasons Robby Anderson went undrafted, including quitting the Temple football team as a junior and going home to Florida.
Maccagnan needs to knock off the Father Flanagan approach to bringing in players.
How about just bringing in really talented players who have their act together? How about that concept? And believe me, there are plenty of them.
And you wonder what Todd Bowles thinks about his GM having three of his acquisitions getting arrested in three months.
From what I heart at the Senior Bowl, I’m hot sure Bowles and Maccagnan are always on the same page. I will leave it at that.
The Jets are in dire need of leadership. Not enough chiefs. Jets desperately need a football czar like Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville, who overseas the GM and coach. Their current set-up is far from ideal.
And all the dysfunction around the Jets right now is perhaps another reason why they need Josh McCown back.
He was the best leader in the building, bar none, last year. He can help lead them out of the dessert.
Let’s be honest, if you are Kirk Cousins, do you want anything to do with this team right now?
“If I were Kirk Cousins, I would not go to the New York Jets,” Fox Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd said on February 20. “The New York Jets have not been a stable franchise, and one of the things Kirk Cousins is as a human being is a very stable human being.”
If you are Cousins, and you see three arrests in three months, and you see the Daily News claiming to quote all kind of unnamed people in the building, it makes it look like there is lack of control at One Jets Drive.
Look, I’m not saying the Jets are going to be a bad team this year. I think if they handle this off-season right, with so much cap space and quality draft picks, I think they can be a playoff contender.
But their GM needs to stop being Father Flanagan.
Like I said before, bring in guys who are really good players with great character. What a concept!
Stop trying to turn people around. Your not Dr. Laura.
