Roll up your sleeves up and get ready for a heaping helping of “The Good Stuff” from One Jets Drive in Florham Park . . .
Robert Turner had the cast removed from his broken ankle, and is now in a protective boot . . .
Mark Brunell is still wearing a sleeve on his strained calf . . .
Logan Payne had his first cast removed from his dislocated wrist, and the doctors are happy with his progress . . .
The Jets started their practice outside today, and then moved inside, into their field house, when it started to rain.
While the field house is an impressive facility, it has no heating or air conditioning. That was Eric Mangini’s idea, coming from the Bill Belichick world of not making the players too comfortable.
But on a warm day, it gets stuffy and muggy in there, so today, the Jets opened up the doors on the side, to let a little air in.
Rex isn’t interested in making his players suffer. It’s not how he’s wired, and we know Bart Scott, a team leader, isn’t very happy with the lack of heat and AC in the field house . . .
The Jets are wearing their Titan uniforms this week (much to the chagrin of many fans), but they have a limited number of the throwback helmets for the players. In practice today, only the regular roster players sported Titan helmets, and the practice squad players wore Jets helmets . . .
Not only are the Jaguars going to likely be without TE Marcedes Lewis, DE Aaron Kampmann and CB Derek Cox (all starters), now there is another starter who is iffy, wide receiver Jason Hill, with a hip injury. The Jags aren’t loaded with weapons in the passing game, so if Lewis and Hill are out, it’s a big hit to their air power . . .
Kenrick Ellis continues to progress, and could be active this week, against the run-heavy Jaguars. Sione Pouha deserves a lot of credit for his development. Today at practice, Sione took Ellis aside, and worked on hand placement with him.
Considering all the off-the-field issues he had in college, some people might assume that Ellis is a dumbass. Not true. He’s actually very bright. His issues aren’t related to picking up the defense. It’s more to do with technique. He came in very raw in the technique department . . .
If I’m the Jets, I’m very worried about Jaguar safety Dwight Lowery this week. He’s an instinctive ballhawk, and you know he’s on top of all of Mark’s tendencies, after practicing against him for two years.
Lowery had more than his fair share of picks against Sanchez in practice.
And you know he’s sharing all that info with Reshean Mathis and company.
The Jets route tree isn’t that complex, and the quarterback does have tendencies. Just ask Sean Lee.
Lowery could be a problem for the Jets this week . . .
Drew Coleman’s comments about going to Jacksonville not being about money, but playing time, are a little bizarre. He’s essentially playing the same role in Jacksonville as New York – nickel back . . .
This Isaiah Trufant is so quick off the edge, if wouldn’t shock me if he’s the next Jet to block a punt. Not only is he lightening quick and fast, but at 5-7, can easily get under blockers . . .
