Florham Park – Dan checks in from One Jets Drive in beautiful Florham Park with another helping of good stuff from the Jets complex . . .
The Jets might go without a backup nose tackle against Dallas. They are still trying to decide whether to make Kenrick Ellis active for this game.
Kenrick is very limited in what he can do now (just goalline and short yardage) . . .
While Caleb Schlauderaff is the higher rated player (from the draft), it’s Collin Baxter who might be the lineman who is more ready to help the Jets in this game. Both were added last weekend.
The reason Baxter could be a better guy for this weekend is that he comes over from San Diego, and they play almost exactly the same offense as the Jets. Remember, that is where Brian Schottenheimer used to work. So Baxter is higher up on the growth curve than Schlauderaff. Plus Baxter can play center, and Schlauderaff can’t . . .
Santonio Holmes is very candid with the media.
He was asked if he saw an improvement in Mark Sanchez’s this summer, he responded, “Not really.”
Holmes looks at the world very differently than most, so he might have meant something different from this answer at face value.
But he’s definitely an interesting cat . . .
CB Mike Jenkins (knee) was back at practice for Dallas today. If Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick start for the Cowboys, that is a pretty good combo, so Jets Nation, don’t think for a second, you are going to torch these guys, even without Terrence Newman . . .
Rex continues to state his goal of having very few Dallas Cowboys jerseys in the crowd this Sunday.
Sorry to burst your bubble Rex, but you can say this five days in a row, and it’s not going to make a difference.
There are going to be Dallas fans all over that stadium.
It happens to the Giants all the time, and it will happen this Sunday.
This team travels well, as they say in the world of college sports.
And from what I hear, this isn’t a tough ticket to get because the stadium is so massive . . .
Brian Schottenheimer said he expects Rob Ryan to move pass rusher extraordinaire DeMarcus Ware around a lot.
We are sure that is accurate, but also expect him to line up over Jets new right tackle Wayne Hunter quite a bit.
Dallas is well aware of the troubles Hunter had with another premier pass rusher, Justin Tuck, in the third preseason game . . .
With all the weapons the Jets have in their passing attack – Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes, Derrick Mason and Dustin Keller, the Jets will go with the Drew Brees (close with B-Schotty from San Diego) approach. Throw to the guy who is getting single coverage . . .
Rob Ryan has his hands full early in the season, attempting to get his guys comfortable in a playbook they have had for a month.
Rex downplayed this angle, but fellow DC Mike Pettine didn’t.
Pettine said it was hard enough for him to install the Jets system in the first year with the full compliment of spring camps, so he can’t imagine what it would be like to do it in a month . . .
Joe McKnight (above) has a virus (sore throat) that he caught from his son . . .
