Cortland – Dan’s Thursday Whispers from Cortland . . . just $7.95 per month to jump on Website Whispers Express . . .
It’s kind of weird. You almost never notice Brodney Pool. Now that doesn’t mean he’s not going to have a good year, but it’s kind of strange what a quiet camp that he has had . . .
Emanuel Cook is an interesting safety prospect. He can cover like a corner and a big-time hitter, who plays with an attitude. He doesn’t have ideal size (5-10, 197), but has a lot of ability. He’s practice squad eligible, so that is where he could end up . . .
Matt Slauson is a very solid player. He almost never gets beat in one-on-one drills. The guy has been with Bill Callahan for six years (four at Nebraska and two with the Jets), so his technique is excellent. It’s pretty clear he’s going to be the starter on opening day, and it doesn’t look like the Jets have anything to worry about.
As for Vlad Ducasse, he’s making progress, but is still a work in progress. But he probably leads the camp in pancake blocks. He’s massive, athletic and has quick feet, and is constantly taking people to the ground . . .
I constantly see Dwight Lowery matched up with Santonio Holmes. This is so unfair to Lowery. He runs 4.6 and Holmes 4.3. Lowery should be playing safety. He’s miscast at corner, especially playing against speedsters . . .
Marquice Cole looks like the best candidate for the gunner spot . . .
Gholston is getting a lot reps at starting defensive end for Shaun Ellis. I think they feel they know what Ellis can do, he’s got a little bit of knee problem, and they want to get Gholston as many reps as possible.
Gholston has made some plays, but generally it’s when he beats an offensive tackle with a quick move. He’s still have issues disengaging . . .
Joe McKnight caught a pass way down the field showing tremendous speed. He’s going to cause some major matchup problems . . .
Matt Kroul has a tremendous motor and deserves to make the team. Every time you turn around, he’s making a play.
