New Jersey – The Jets made a bizarre decision today. Why? What the heck is going on here?
“And at this time, I think the best decision for the Jets to have at quarterback is Geno Smith and that’s how I feel,” Rex Ryan said.
Is he that clueless?
Find one coach, GM or player in the league that would agree with that? Find me one.
I find that hard to believe that Rex is this clueless.
What does “best decision” mean?
He didn’t say “best chance to win,” he said “best decision.”
“Best chance to win” is the bottom line?
The Jets are a dysfunctional mess now.
Idzik is way over his head, and it’s impacting the results.
As one source close to the Seahawks told me the other day, “Idzik will get fired here, will get a cap job, and you will never hear his name ever gain.”
Based on this decision to go back to Smith, I now believe the Jets need to clean house.
You have to be lost to think that Smith sitting three games enabled him to fix what was wrong with him – bad pocket presence and telegraphing? You have to be rank amateur to think that.
Idzik has mishandled the quarterback position from the get-go, and today’s decision is another example of that.
I think Rex could lose the locker room on this one.
The players know Vick gives them a better chance to win. They aren’t stupid. And they are tired of losing. One bad start, with awful pass protection, and he’s out. This, after leading the Jets to a major upset over Pittsburgh in the previous game? idiotic.
It seems like Idzik’s priority is being right about Geno Smith above all else.
This is pathetic. The idea is to win games, not be right come hell or high water about draft picks, especially second round reaches.
Idzik needs to move on with his life’s work.
But will he go?
Woody Johnson is a different cat.
Will Woody Johnson and his right hand man Ira Akselrad make a move? Ira is almost like a co-owner. That is the kind of power he possesses.
It’s impossible to gauge how these two non-football people will handle this.
It was Woody, Ira and Neil Glat who interviewed the GM candidates last year. Not a football guy among them.
The fact that the Jets went back to Geno, made some think that the owner is on board with the Smith project.
Think about it – if Rex and John need to win games down the stretch, why would they go to the lesser of the two quarterbacks?
Because clearly Woody and Idzik are both into this Dr. Frankstein thing with Geno. They are going to make this pick, make this QB project work.
The Jets are a mess right now, and today’s announcement is a perfect example.
I tried to be nice up to this point.
But the gloves are off.
It’s time to clean house.
