Premium – Here are some thoughts and Whispers regarding the New York Jets final cuts. A few surprises. Let’s dive in . . .
WR Quincy Enunwa is a good football player, and a really nice sixth round value.
Not only is he the Jets’ best receiver on jump balls, 50-50 balls, but he was superb on special teams this summer.
He’s the perfect guy to be your fifth or sixth receiver, because he can really help you on specials . . .
If you want to throw some more salt in the wounds related to the Jets’ cornerback situation – Aaron Berry made the Cleveland Browns.
Remember last summer he blew his knee out in Jets camp, and was put on IR.
The Jets moved on, and he signed with Cleveland.
He absolutely could help them now.
I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have kept this rights, for a pittance, and have him in the mix this summer. That was a mistake . . .
I understand the Rontez Miles release. He’s a good against the run, but needs a lot work on his pass coverage. He’s really liked in the building (has overcome so much in his life, and people respect that), so I think he will get another year on the practice squad . . .
Dimitri Patterson’s second wave of quotes to Josina Anderson got him released today.
Anderson gets a lot of players to tell her stuff that they wouldn’t say to other reporters.
She is an attractive woman, who is in great shape (former track star) who dresses very well, and players respond favorable to her in the locker room (and she has a lot of their phone numbers), and she consistently gets great material.
Good for her. The M.O. works. I’m not judging, just giving you some insight on what is going on.
Patterson going back to Anderson a second time was insane, unless he wanted the Jets to release him . . .
The release of LB A.J. Edds proves once again “competition” has very little to do with these decisions.
Edds was excellent all summer, in practice and games.
Heres the deal – Jeremiah George was making this team no matter what.
So often the team officials downplay the fourth preseason game as not meaning much.
But when one of their anointed players plays well, like George, who had seven tackles, then it matters.
I like George’s toughness, and he’s decent against the run, but he’s a liability in coverage right now. Edds is really good in coverage.
This is the kind of move where you ask yourself – what more could a guy do to make it?
Politics aplenty with a lot of these moves . . .
LeQuan Lewis is a great young man, but there is a reason he’s been on all these teams.
• Tennessee Titans (2011)*
• Oakland Raiders (2012)*
• New York Jets (2012)*
• Dallas Cowboys (2012)
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012)
• Chicago Bears (2013)*
• New England Patriots (2013)*
• Arizona Cardinals (2014)*
• Toronto Argonauts (2014)
• New York Jets (2014–present)
His ability to diagnose routes is lacking.
I know Rex loves his speed, but he’s given up touchdowns in his two games with the Jets.
But it’s such slim-pickings for corners out there, there really aren’t a lot of options on the street.
One writer asked me about CB Phillip Adams who was released by Seattle.
In the Seahawks’ fourth preseason game, he got torched for a touchdown by Denarius Moore.
Teams don’t get rid of good corners.
They are so hard to find.
Adams wouldn’t help the Jets much.
