Cortland – It’s time for some more Website Whispers from Jets training camp in Cortland. Let’s get it started, let’s get it started . . .
This Ellis Lankster looks like a nice pickup.
He is playing with a lot of confidence.
He gets his hands on a lot of footballs, including a deep ball to DeMarcus Ganaway, that he broke up at today’s practice.
He could challenge Kyle Wilson for the nickel job, but that isn’t going to happen. They aren’t going to let a street free agent supplant a first round pick. That isn’t how they roll around here.
Lankster did a really nice job on special teams for Jets last year, and should be solid this year as their #4 cornerback.
The Jets personnel department deserves kudos for picking this guy off the scrap heap . . .
The media isn’t distinguishing itself today, getting caught up in nonsense.
Tebow running with no shirt off the field is a huge story, along with a few fans yelling catcalls at Tebow after some bad throws.
Grow up. Who cares? How are these big stories? What does any of this have to do with winning on Sunday?
As Bill Belichick likes to say when asked about stuff like this, “Does anybody have any football questions?” . . .
One of the better plays from Tim Tebow today was when he ran a bootleg to the left side, and he hit TE Dedrick Epps for a gain of 15.
Is there a better play for Tebow on the planet than a bootleg to the left side – he likes to run and he’s a lefty.
He followed this was a throw he’d like back, and so would Josh Baker. Tebow threw a pass to Baker, and ball was sailing out of bounds, and the tight end crashed into a player on the sidelines trying to catch it, and got up slow . . .
Stephen Hill looks like a steal of biblical proportions.
His body control is awfully impressive. Today, he had a nice medium range catch, down the left seam, and did a great job boxing out Josh Bush to grab the football . . .
A pass went off the hands of Aussie tight end Hayden Smith over the middle, and as he was walking off, Bart Scott, who was covering him, did some trash talking.
I don’t know what Bart said, but I will take a guess – he referenced Crocodile Dundee . . .
Aaron Maybin was asked by a reporter about a sack he had in practice.
“Just one, I had a couple,” Maybin said with a smile . . .
I personally think Rex Ryan’s public criticism of Jeremy Kerley is unfair.
First of all, I think it’s really, really wrong, especially now with all the concussion issues, to give a player a guilt trip about being hurt.
Kerley pulled his hamstring on the first day of practice. What do you want him to do, go to a faith healer?
Secondly, Rex feels Kerley has been slow to pick up the system.
Well, let’s not forget, he’s in his second system in two years. Last year, he came on late in the year, when he finally felt comfortable with the playbook.
Maybe Kerley isn’t a fast learner. And considering Rex overcame dyslexia as a kid, he should be careful about this stuff.
And when was the last time Rex said “boo” about Holmes’s playbook acumen, when he runs the wrong route, which happened in games last season?
Kerley displayed a pretty strong work ethic last year – he was a fixture at the ball machine after practice.
After Rex ripped into Kerley, a reporter asked him if there was anybody who could replace him, in the slot, if he doesn’t work out, and Rex answered the question willingly.
Okay, now we have the guy out the door now. He looked pretty darn good to me late this year.
Ridiculous.
