Philadelphia – Dan checks in from “Lincoln Financial Field” with some injury updates and some player notes from the Jets loss to the Philadelphia Eagles . . .
DeMario Davis played most of the game, and finished with half a tackle.
I think he has a lot of potential, but Rex got way ahead of himself with his praise for this player.
He has a lot of work to do.
On the Eagles’ third play of their first drive, Davis overran tailback Bryce Brown, and the runner gained 10 yards . . .
Austin Howard gave up a sack to DE Brandon Graham (former first round pick) on the first series, but then settled down and played fairly well . . .
Greg McElroy had a pair of 13 yard runs on the Jets’ first series.
On the second one, both players on the left side did a great job. LT Jason Smith had a pancake block, and Vlad Ducasse went to the second level and pancaked DT Landon Cohen.
Ducasse has taken a quantum leap this summer . . .
Jordan White might have cost himself a roster spot with a drop on third-and-seven to end the first drive.
I think he will likely end up on the practice squad.
Eron Riley helped himself tonight leading the team with four receptions.
The Jets have a tough decision to make on the final roster spot between Riley and Chaz Schilens, who was not here tonight. He was back in New Jersey getting treatment.
I would find it hard to believe that the Jets would want Schilens on the opening day roster and have to guarantee his salary for the whole season, considering how injury prone he is.
He also had trouble staying on the field in Oakland, so it should not be a surprise to Mike Tannenbaum, the same is the case here . . .
Nick Bellore’s left shoulder is really messed up.
After the game, it was heavily wrapped, and had an electro-stimulation device attached to it.
Rex said after the game it’s separated (but then backed away from that statement) . . .
Early in the game, I was wondering where safety Josh Bush was.
He wasn’t playing (and this was a game you would expect the rookie safety to play quite a bit). I looked up and down the sideline (with binoculars), and he was nowhere to be found.
After some investigating, I hear he has a concussion. He might be a good candidate for the new six-week IR rule . . .
Aaron Maybin, played most of the game, and had no tackles.
He was facing backup tackles like undrafted free agents Dennis Kelly (Purdue) and D.J. Jones (Nebraska), and did little.
The guy tries real hard, but really, really struggles shedding blocks . . .
Greg McElroy showed very good pocket presence tonight, constantly doing a great job stepping up to avoid the rush.
He seems to be a little better in this department than Mark Sanchez . . .
At the end of the game, Royce Pollard (pictured above) landed hard on his left shoulder, and separated it.
He’s probably headed for an injury settlement . . .
