Jets owner Woody Johnson did the right thing by hiring defensive intern Mike Smith to be the new outside linebacker coach.
After two years as a coaching intern, Smith clearly earned a position on the staff.
Smith did some good work with Aaron Maybin, and some of the other young outside linebackers.
If Johnson didn’t make this move, Smith was prepared to join Mike Leach’s staff at Washington State.
