The Jets have been inconsistent covering tight ends this season, and they face another significant challenge this week.
Buffalo Bills TE Jeff Chandler, who is 6-7, has six touchdowns on the season.
“He’s become a big red-zone threat,” said Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. “It’s just one of things, I just think he’s developed some chemistry with (Ryan) Fitzpatrick. He runs good routes. He’s tall. He doesn’t run away from a lot of guys, but I think he’s faster than you would think when you first look at him.
“There are times when he’s well-covered and even if it’s not a well-thrown ball, he finds a way to come up with it, so he’s a guy that’s a matchup problem for us, just from a size standpoint as it would be for most teams. A (defensive back) you think could cover him might be all over him, but you’re covering him with a guy who is 5’10”, 5’11”, 6’0” at best, and he’s 6’7”.”
